USA Today Ranks Dennis Allen Worst Head Coach in the League (1 Viewer)

I’m sure the board will handle this ranking with grace and equanimity

This is the official answer to the question you pose in this thread:

Thread 'Here’s what I don’t get re Saints ranking predictions' https://saintsreport.com/threads/here’s-what-i-don’t-get-re-saints-ranking-predictions.507967/

Despite the changes tue Saints have made, the national media is not going to get behind the Saints until DA can prove that he's a good head coach. I'm rooting for him, but he still needs to prove he can win games through coaching and not player talent alone. Otherwise, he's going to get outcoached when it matters the most. His tenure as a head coach has shown that his team underperforms when going up against 500 or better teams. I think the criticism is fair. Some coaches are known good commodities. Some coaches are total unknowns. And some coaches are known to have low success rates. He's in that last group.

I like and trust DA much more than I like and or trust USA Today so this doesn't move the needle for me. 😂

Also, this site and most internet sites are made up of many folks who lack those abilities in any aspect of their lives.

Agreed, my HC rankings looks something like:

Reid

Tomlin
McVay
Harbaugh
Shanahan
Payton (may a lil bias with this placement)

Ryans
Campbell
McDaniel
Taylor
McDermitt
Pederson

LeFluer
Stefanski
O'Connell
Sirianni
Quinn
McCarthy
Allen

Gannon
Quinn
Pierce
Bowles
Saleh
Daboll
Eberflus

These guys do not have enough experience and shouldn't be placed on any ranking list:
Mayo
Callahan
Canales
MacDonald
Morris
New Harbaugh (decade since in league)

No one is arguing Allen is a top 10 coach, but Ranking him last is beyond disrespectful.
He’s bottom 10 without question and very close to bottom 5. However, it doesn’t matter if you’re bottom 5 or 10. Both are bad. It’s like Bowles, he’s an awful head coach yet made the playoffs. The bad will eventually show up and hurt the team, just like Bowles did against the Lions.

Hopefully he makes a drastic jump this year or we find another HC soon. I’m pulling for DA all while I think there’s still way more signs that he’s bad than there are that he’s going to turn his HC career around. However, again, I’m pulling for him to get it right bc in the end that’s what’s best for the Saints.

Ok, I mean I don't really think USATODAY or lots of other media sports outlets predictions are worth the paper they are printed on (or nowadays the htm code they reside upon) but let's see if DA proves them wrong this year.....

I think many of us would agree if they don't make the playoffs yet again, there isn't much left to change.....

They have Dennis Allen as 2 games below .500 for his 2 years here. Saleh is 18-33 in his 3 years at NYJ and somehow that's better? Also Eberflus is hot garbage.

I'd argue that the Saints roster over that time period has been much better than the Jets' roster. People were talking double digit victories,

The Saints have underachieved each year under Allen, but this is definitively his team this year so maybe we see improvement.

Wrong take, very probably, but still more accurate than the sunshine pumpers who suddenly blame everything on PC and all the other coaches DA himself retained. Disgusting.

Yes, that one guy that does that. There are many more DA can't do anything right and always negative people like you than there are true sunshine pumpers.

Saints superbowl 2024
DA coach of the year
Derek Carr comeback player of the year
Falcons sweep
Win the division
I'm pumping all the sunshine

Are you serious? Plenty of posts - I’m not making the work for you - blaming PC, Marrone and everybody, while DA is a respected DC who knows his stuff, rah rah rah. You asking a link? 😂
DA is the guy who wanted these coaches in the first place. It’s nonsense to divert his share of blame
He leaves during Lent he missed the entire thing. That's on him, he made that sacrifice.

DA has his positives... they just haven't translated to leading a team yet. :loomis:

I can relate to what you’re saying based on what I think of the Raiders organization, but people are going to account for Allen’s time there, especially when filling out this kind of ranking.
A fair point that I had failed to consider.

Every coach is a bottom dweller until they prove it. DA has to make the playoffs period. I think they have a good season with the new offensive scheme. Remains to be seen if he is more than a good defensive coordinator.
