Vehicle plows into crowd on Bourbon St., with 14 fatalities (27 Viewers)

so... the suspect was stopped by an illegally parked piece of construction equipment.

That’s naturally New Orleans.
Oh, that crane was illegally parked? There is nothing funny about this obvs but, yeah, that's, well, of course.

It appears (possibly) quite different, but did remind me some of the X-Mas parade attack in Waukesha--a suburb of Milwaukee, from a few years ago. A criminal maniac, Darrell Brooks (needlessly out on bond for violent crimes) plowed thru people. The city then spent a lot on (millions) for metal barricades.

It could only be more Naturally New Orleans if the driver hit a pot hole which launched them into the illegally parked construction equipment.

Good point, but I'm having trouble seeing anything positive as I didn't hear about it until 30 minutes ago. Not processing yet.
Why are we so damn broken?
There was an eyewitness account that one victim was a child seen earlier dancing in the street, later deceased as eyewitness left area.

No idea. Sad part is that I left thinking how great the people were being last night
Not sure what all you've read here but I mentioned not wanting to be anywhere near Bourbon Street at Mardi Gras or other high tourist times. But that's because of the amount of people and the inability to just move. But, frankly (and I haven't been in years), it was never because I necessarily felt unsafe ... as long as I wasn't acting a fool and was keeping aware of my surroundings.

And we don't know that that's not exactly what happened.

Yeah, heard that but confused me given that the truck has Texas plates to a rental place and we don't yet have an ID on the perp himself. So was it the truck that was tracked with him in it or what?
I guess the point about being a rental vehicle is that the rental company should have records of who had possession of the truck at the time it was seen at Eagle Pass and whether it was returned prior to being used in this particular crime. If it was the same person on record in both places, then the investigation will have to include the reasons why the truck was going through Eagle Pass.

Not a traditional rental like Hertz. Turo, where a person can rent their private vehicle to another individual. I've used it a few times

Ohhhhhhhh. Didn't know that. Now some of the earlier comments make more sense to me.
