Very Simple, just a thread about what song you are currently listening to, usually reminds people of past songs that they used to enjoy, and just shows the taste of music of people.

When You Were Young - The Killers

followed by

Santeria - Sublime

Enjoy!

Can anyone name me that super catchy hit song from circa 1992 by a band that sounded just like U2? I thought it was a U2 song for years and years, until it came up on some VH1 documentary. One of the guys even mentioned that it sounded just like U2.

Anyways, I’ve gone through a bunch of lists of hit songs for 1992 and nearby years and I can’t turn up the name of it. It’s going to drive me up the wall.
Any clue about the lyrics or what it sounded like they're saying? What era U2?

No, I can’t even recall the music, only the fact the song exists. I think the song was out around the same time as Achtung Baby. But, I swear you could have told anyone unsuspecting it was off that album and they would have believed you.

It was super catchy in the same way as Mysterious Ways, maybe catchier. I thought it would be easier to track down, but maybe it wasn’t as major a hit as I’m remembering. It’s probably in regular rotation on 90s on 9.

Eureka! Man, that was driving me nuts. #2 in 1991, I guess I overlooked it.

Haha. I just pulled that out of my arse when you said Mysterious Ways, I could hear that effected guitar tone and it made me think of that Jesus Jones song.

I never really thought of it as sounding like U2 though. But when I thought about Mysterious Ways, that's the next song I thought of - so it was a good clue, there must be a resemblance.

I was 5/6 years old when those songs came out, so I’m sure my wee brain just combined the two together like it did other things from that time. I think it was like 2008 before I found out it wasn’t a U2 song.

It’s interesting to me too, how forgotten that song seems to be. Only 860k views on YouTube. “Free Your Mind” has like 12M and “Mysterious Ways” is over 20M.

Also, my learning of music theory is only now cursory, but those two songs look to be in similar/related keys:

A-D-A-E-A-D-A-E-A for Mysterious Ways.

D-E-G-D for Right Here, Right Now, with the last D morphing from fifth, to major, to suspended and back.

So, the very similar tones coupled with the prominent D and E chords in both.

Kacey Musgraves new album is really good. A “country” album (made by a lesbian who confesseses to psychedelic use and writes all of her own songs) that is sonically as groundbreaking as the artist who made it.

I was listening to Amazon music and one of her songs popped up (Velvet Elvis) and I liked it so I've listened to the whole album and I'm really digging it. The 10 minutes I caught of the Grammy's last night I saw her win for Country Album of the year. If this qualifies as a "country" album then the Grammy's owe Jenny Lewis a few over the past few years.
