Will Smith goes on stage at the Oscars and hits Chris Rock then verbally threatens him from his seat (2 Viewers)

That was a long walk from his seat to the stage...
Seems to me like this video should’ve included his wife because you know she had to have said something to him for him to go up there after initially laughing at the joke. That woman is trouble

A slap shouldn’t ruin or define a career.
In and of itself, it wouldn't. I just think about the fact that this was Will Smith, the Fresh Prince. The rapper turned actor who ended up having a very successful TV series. This was the guy who turned himself into the lead role in a summer blockbuster. This was the kid from Philly who started off as a rapper and had reached a point in his career that had been made possible by the likes of Sidney Portier and Denzel Washington. This was the night he was expected to ascend to pinnacle of his acting career...his life's work and he completely pissed it away.

ETA: and he's still walking back.
He had a lot of time to think about everything that had led him to that point in his career while walking on stage. He could have asked himself "how is this sheet going to look on national TV? Am I really about to do this on the night that I'm expected to become only the 5th black actor to win the Academy award for best actor? (6th total with Halle Berry). Am I really going to slap another black man in the face on national TV?
He does however seem to be reading and responding from the heart.
I liked Will Smith and loved most of his movies. I thought he was funny and was just really impressed that this was the dude that made the song Parents just don't Understand. For him to do that was such a disappointment on so many fronts. When someone you would never expect to do something ends up doing something you never would have thought they could do, it's hard to move on from that.

Will should have been ashamed to even walk up on stage and accept the award. It would have been easier for me to move on had he done that because at least he would have shown some sense of shame for what he did. Has he even said he's ashamed of what he did?

Bill Cosby, Cliff Huxtable, portraying a successful black father and known as America's dad...finding out that he was raping women....that was crushing. Will Smith's slap, while not brought to law enforcement as a crime, was just as crushing. He can save his video. He should have been a man and apologized to Chris right then and there.

Multiple people around him said that they didn't notice Jada say anything to Will.

The look, I guess, was enough.

Slap someone at work, especially in corporate U.S., see what happens.
Yeah, celebrities get in fights all the time, especially with paparazzi, and it has zero effect on their career. This had more to do with where and when he did it.

More like slap someone at the office Christmas party for making fun of your wife when you're all drunk. In corporate US that could go either way, depending on the personalities, context, hierarchy.

It is not going to go "either way" if the event is in company premises or promoted as a company party.
