Will Smith goes on stage at the Oscars and hits Chris Rock then verbally threatens him from his seat (1 Viewer)

I dunno if it’s money motivating him, I think it’s the respect thing that he wants back, but that’s not going to happen. Too poor of a choice on too big of a stage

His opportunity to gain that respect back rests firmly with Chris Rock and that's okay. It took him months to apologize, Rock gets to take his time deciding whether he'll ever forgive him.

Something that still annoys me about this whole thing, Jada Pinkett. I can't imagine someone's spouse just sitting there and knowingly watching their loved one throw their career away. The second I make to get up to get up confront someone, ON STAGE no less, she would have calledd me or pulled me back to my senses. The first words out her mouth after my whole God given name would have been, "are you ******** stupid? Sit down...now!" I don’t think this is just unique to my wife either. I can't fathom that anyone I know would have let that just happen.

From my understanding Jada Pinkett Smith is known to be an instigator. Just from what the cameras showed on that night initially Will Smith was OK with it but when he got the stink guy from his wife that when he figured that he had to go up and do something, #ProtectHer honor

The issue here is like Tom Cruise (+et al), Jlo + Ben, JayZ + Beyoncé, or Bruce and Demi back in the day or whomever- they’re marriage/family is a publicly cultivated part of their brand. What us regular folk would do is immaterial
To what degree Jada made a wife vs brand choice is🤷🏽‍♂️

He was helping people in New Orleans after Katrina.
He did the same in Haiti after the earthquake.
Like him or loath him I think he deserves some credit for his humanitarian insticts.
He also only did it with a camera crew on him. It was highly discussed that many of the people that he went to "help" couldn't fit in the boat with him because of all of the camera crew and equipment that he carried around. He was literally run out of town.

I’d like to read about this, do you have a link……… never mind I found the link, what’s not aware of his initial stupidity, but I believe he’s learned his lesson from what he’s done so far in Haiti and other parts of the world

I would have to dig because it was so long ago. If I come across it I will share. I remember that they asked him to leave because he was pulling on more resources (security requests and safety concerns) than they could afford to provide for him. It would be literally 5-6 guys in a boat and they would film him helping one person in the boat while the rest of the family had to wait for him to come back so they could film him helping them in the boat.

I googled it, I found the information I was looking for, stupid move for his first time trying to help people he should’ve thought it out

If his stated goal was to help people then yeah
If his stated goal was to bring attention to just how bad things were, then 🤷🏽‍♂️

Remember those first days (weeks) into Katrina were filled with tons of sensationalism and outright lies - it was important to get whatever ‘positive’ we could at that time
