WR Cedrick Wilson Jr. signs with the Saints to a 2-year/5.75M deal (2.85M guaranteed) (4 Viewers)

This makes sense. We need bodies.

Not bodies, but someone who knows the system. None of the other three WRs have experience in this system. This is a very smart under the radar signing. Wilson was also a decent WR prospect when he came into the league with some athletic attributes and huge hands (9.75"). A good player comp with the 49ers is Brandon Aiyuk as they have similar size/measurables/speed and they do the dirty work.

5th year player. 2022 just over 100 yards receiving and 2023 just under 300 yards, more of a journeyman than prospect. Maybe Carr can help him and he develops in this system. I hope so. But based on his history idk.

Yep, that's a his bio, doesn't really discuss the WRs who were ahead of him on those rosters, nor that when he did get a chance he shined.

2019 Cowboys: Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, Witten, Pollard, Elliott
2020 Cowboys: Cooper, Lamb, Gallup, Schultz, Pollard, Elliot
2021 Cowboys: Cooper, Lamb, Gallup, Schultz, Pollard, Elliot - Wilson had 602 yards in 2021 which had him 4th on the team in receiving yards and the 3rd highest for a WR (Schultz had over 800 at TE).
2022 Dolphins: Hill, Waddle, Geseki, Sherfield (This was the Tua brain concussion season)
2023 Dolphins: Hill, Waddle, Smythe and then Wilson was 4th on the team in receiving yards.

He was also a 24 y/o rookie so that factored in to him getting drafted lower, but with a nearly 70% catch rate combined with his attributes and willingness to do the dirty work, this is a great signing.

That is all he is. A little odd to sign players like he and Peterman this early in free agency, but they are the type of late signing to fill out a roster for camp.
More snaps, targets, yards and TDs than any Fins WR not named Tyreek or Waddle. More than Berrios, Chosen, Cracraft and Claypool (per game since he got there midseason) and all those numbers went up from the previous season.

We needed a complementary 3-ish WR and he’s perfect for that.

Miami's offense is very predicated on getting the ball into its primary playmakers' hands. They're not like us, where it seems spreading the ball around is a point of emphasis.

If you watch their games, you'll see that the ball is either going to Tyreke, Waddle, or one of their RBs out of the backfield on just about every play.

I mean, Tyreke alone had 1,800 yards, and Waddle had 1,000 in only 14 games.

Look at Miami's target distribution compared to ours. Wilson is third in Wide Receiver targets with a mere 38. For us, that #3 target honor goes to Michael Thomas, who despite only playing in 10 games, managed to have 64 targets.

Can remember a few years ago watching a Cowboys game and envying that they had a WR like him. Was also annoyed when he signed with Miami.

This could be a sneaky good acquisition.
Yeah that offseason I was hoping we sign him because he was a good slot receiver for the Cowboys. Plus he could lineup at all 3 receiver positions.

Yeah, playing 50% of the snaps in that offense is pretty significant. I know some people hate to talk about WR blocking but the Saints were horrible at it last year. Wilson can do it well without being a total liability in the passing game.

I didn't realize he was such a good hands catcher and ball snatcher. Dude has massive hands at 9.75" and he uses them with ferocity.

Yep.

This is a fun highlight tape to watch. Admittedly, it's old, from his best couple of years (2020-2021), but it gives you a good look at some of the things he's capable of.

We got ourselves a good one.
