WR Cedrick Wilson Jr. signs with the Saints to a 2-year/5.75M deal (2.85M guaranteed) (1 Viewer)

He looked like a player on the rise when he left Dallas after 2021. I wonder what went on with him in Miami that he seemed to regress?
Post #69 answers your question. Miami's offense is designed to get the ball to Tyreek Hill, Waddle or their RBs. He did the dirty work and made plays when called upon. This is a great pickup.

I don’t understand why fans like you want to throw cold water on another fan’s optimism. Wilson brings something different to the table and can help the team. Would it be better if we didnt sign anyone?
Don’t let this clown sway you. He’s the guy that said everything I’ve said and will ever say is garbage. Because I said that JW’s last play antics may have poisoned his relationship with the Saints. He read it like I was saying JW was poisonous overall. He’s clearly a troll. Probably a falcon fan.

More snaps, targets, yards and TDs than any Fins WR not named Tyreek or Waddle. More than Berrios, Chosen, Cracraft and Claypool (per game since he got there midseason) and all those numbers went up from the previous season.

We needed a complementary 3-ish WR and he’s perfect for that.

Seem like a depth guy who has experience in the system, can block, has YAC, and plays special teams. That's a good fit for any team. Hopefully he ends up being #4 or #5, but this also will make A.T. Perry compete with an experienced vet to try to be the #3 WR. I was never comfortable with penciling Perry in as the #3 WR. He had a few good games last year, but the sample size was so small you just never know if he can continue that. Especially in a new system.

But, I also hope they bring in a young WR in the draft that has size, contested catch, and YAC ability.

I not saying he isn't a good pickup. Just wondering why he went from 45 catches in Dallas to 12 and 22 in Miami. I get that there was talent ahead of him, but I though he was an ascending player when he left Dallas. I would have expected somewhere in the 40 catch range even behind Hill and Waddle.

Yeah I think you hit the nail on the head. Signing Wilson doesn’t preclude you from drafting a WR. It protects you from over drafting one out of need.

Another reason why I really want Chase Young. Different situation wrt money and the player’s talent/upside. But I don’t want to force a pass rusher early if there’s a legit stud OL, TE or even a QB we like at the spot.

We are still going to have to draft one or two sign one or two more, now we have 4 WRs on the roster and usually carry 6. I still think we should convert Juwan back to WR to play the X, then we'd have 5 WRs under contract. Bring in a couple natural TEs for the offense.

Michael Gallup missed significant time during 2021 which probably boosted Wilson's targets. His original contract with Miami was 3yrs $22+mil with over $12mil guaranteed so I think you're correct in assuming the league thought he was an ascending player.

I love this pick up. I was a fan of his in Dallas. He has just been stuck in teams with deep WR rooms. Even when we got to Miami. I was thinking this was his shot. Then they traded for Hill

Smells Trequan Smith-ish signing

Blocking WR veteran you can expect to do his job.
And that's fine. We need one of those. I just hope he was reasonably priced.
