WR Tet McMillan as the Saints pick at #9? (14 Viewers)

What I’m getting from all of this is that there is very likely to be a really good WR at 40. So taking one with marginal speed at 9 doesn’t make much sense unless he makes up for it with elite short area quickness, routes, hands and catch radius.

He does. But, I don't think 4.48 or anything in the 4.5 range is marginal speed for a guy that size.

For what it's worth, Mike Thomas ran a 4.57 and he was plenty fast enough. It's not deep blow the top off of a defense speed, but that's not what you are looking for from McMillan.

Sounds like there's some discrepancies on what Tetairoa actually ran today.

40 is a bit overrated. Xavier Worthy ran the fastest time ever recorded, has the best QB currently in the NFL and look at the lack of success with it.

Meanwhile you have guys who run high 4.5's getting open because of the quickness in their breaks and confusing the coverage with directional misdirection's.

Just for comparison sake. Mike Evans was 6'4 3/4 and 231 pounds and ran 4.53 at the combine.

So the Mike Evans comparison were off as well. I would hope you would get something better than a Drake London in the top 10 of the draft.

I agree with your premise, but Worthy was a rookie last year and got better in the last quarter of the season and in the playoffs.

I definitely agree it's overrated:

Michael Thomas ran 4.57
Deandre Hopkins ran 4.57
Keenan Allen ran 4.71
Mike Evans ran 4.53
Drake London was a 4.5 range guy
Davante Adams ran 4.56
Antonio Brown ran 4.57
Cooper Kupp ran 4.62
Ceedee Lamb ran 4.50
Puka Nacua ran 4.57

The list goes on and on for top tier WR's that ran 4.5 or slower.

Yes. And no.

You generally have to be either fast or big.

Really difficult to be small and slow.

I usually put together a spreadsheet of the top 25 WRs and their stats/attributes. The average of a Top 25 WR is about 4.49. You listed a bunch of outliers who have special traits in other areas and most of all the ability to play WR.

Lamb and London shouldn't be on that list as they both ran a 4.50.

Comparing combine 40 times to pro day times is misleading. Pro day times are usually faster. Antonio Brown actually ran a 4.47 at the combine. Also, Keenan Allen ran the 40 with a PCL sprain.

He ran right in the range of Mike Evans. A little faster or a little slower depending on whose stopwatch you believe.

Pro day times doesn't equate to combine times. Michael Thomas ran a 4.43 at his pro day.

I mean, they vary so it's not as consistent. But, the point is he ran in the same range as Evans regardless of if it was a Pro Day or combine. He's probably not really a 4.48 guy but he could easily be a 4.53 guy which is what Evans was.
