Peat and Ruiz say hello. This idea that picking a WR high is risk is an exaggeration based on one guy that developed slow (Meach) and we've hit on the other WRs taken high (Cooks & MT).Can't go wrong with picking in the trenches.
Grab a tackle, spend a 2nd on a speedy WR and sign OBJ or Landry as insurance, and your WR room is just as talented.
I agree with this and I’ve always been a pro-trench top pick guy. But if nothing else, the bengals showed that you can excel with great skill positions and QB play, and a not-so-great line. I’m not saying neglect the OL, but even if we lose Armstead and sign a decent LT in FA, we’re still fairly solid there. The name of the game NOW is skill players. I never stated it's a high risk, simply said you can never go wrong picking in the trenches. You never have to many lineman whether it be offensive or defensive.Peat and Ruiz say hello. We’ve just been so poor at WR for so long, and I don’t really trust us to get one of the top WR2 options in FA.
Yeah Tackle is also loaded. But Raimann is a Day 1 starter and those don’t often get to pick 18.I like the idea of a commanding LT….just hope that if we draft one they don’t end up getting moved to G because of their limitations….such as Peat and Dumbrowski.
If we can pick up a decent WR2 in FA it would make the choice a bit easier. What’s depth like for tackles in this draft? Is there a starter calibre player likely to be on the board in rd2
We've done that consistently, that's my point that its time to focus on an equally important group.I never stated it's a high risk, simply said you can never go wrong picking in the trenches. You never have to many lineman whether it be offensive or defensive.
True. But like I’ve been sayn for awhile, there is a difference between RTs n LTs. LTs are the more valuable/prized of the two. Most QBs are right handed, so not only do they have to protect his blindside, they often have to go up against the opponents best pass rusher. A good one ain’t ez to find! You need 2 tackles
I’m bumping this thread to show that arm length is overrated. Remember that when we potentially pick Will Campbell. Also, had we drafted Raimann over long armed Penning in 2022 we wouldn’t need to talk about the tackle position.I like him. Seems like a really good player, n looked solid in his vids.
But not at 18.
He lacks one significant measurable dat IMO, completely takes him outta the 1st rd: Arm length. His arms are only 32 7/8 in. Its not an “absolute” deal breaker, but it IS something that will sour on most NFL scouts n teams. They’re looking for at least 34 inch arms from an OT.
Example: His hip injury aside, one of the so called “negs “on Ram coming outta college was his arm length, cause it was a quarter inch short of dat 34 in “threshold” at 33 3/4 inches! N never mind the FACT that he had nearly 11 INCH (10 7/8) hands ! Think I’m lyin? Check it out:

- Has linear frame with narrow shoulders and short arms for the position
Crazy huh!
That said, I still think Raimanns an intriguing prospect, n depending how things go, n if he’s is there, I’d take him esp with the second pick in da 3rd rd.
We’ll see

Raimann is the 8th graded OT by PFF
Draft Will Campbell and put him at RT and our line is vastly improved.
Penning could make a great guard. But if not, we have two great tackles.
Ah yes, the veiled “I told you so” bump. We’ve all done it at some point. This one is to teach us a lesson about arm length mattering.
I'm tired of the way things have gone though and there is a fair point to it. It's honestly gotten ridiculous. We're practically to the point of asking "But how big is his thumb?!" or "Is he flexible enough to trim his own toe nails!?".
I miss the days when the focus was on hard nose football players who were absolutely determined to dominate the opposition and also had great natural instincts. Statistically speaking, those kinds of players feel as if they have a much higher success rate then the physical freaks who are without strong instincts or physical freaks who are without determination to dominate.
