Here we go again - Video shows white police officer killing a black man in Minnesota by suffocation as the man pleads "I can't breathe" (1 Viewer)

Considering the noon and five o'clock protests about this whole mess they'd be stupid not to make a statement denouncing what happened in MN. I think we don't have riots at protests in NO because our cops are so used to working crowd control with all the parades, festivals, etc. that they work as part of their regular job while these cops in towns where there isn't an event that draws massive crowds, I doubt their officers have much training on crowd control measures.

If this cop (piece of sh..) is not convicted of murder, I will join the rioting. Also, the cops watching this go down and not intervening should be charged as well. (don't know if they have)

I just watched the video......I put it off, because I didn't think I wanted to see a man die. Horrific!!!! I'm at a loss for words.

The only positive that can come out of this situation is that this incident is so over the top, so wrong, that white Americans will be disgusted enough to speak out and acknowledge what is clearly a problem in this country. While I do not condone the rioting and lawlessness, I can understand it. It must be very different to look at the world through a black man's lens. I'm ashamed that I spoke out against Kapernick for taking a knee.

I hope now people can see what he and others were trying to do, which was find that avenue of non-violent protest to bring awareness to this tinderbox of a situation that has now exploded.

And hopefully, we can collectively look at our reactions to that, our inability to empathize and see that which drove them to sacrifice their careers in some cases, and how that apathy or hostility on our part was part of the problem. Perpetuating those immoral and unjust forces that require changing. Not just a system, but also a people that allows themselves to remain divided and resistant to the real and ongoing injustices along racial lines in this country.

And you ask how will some white people look past it this time? We already see it happening, by allowing those that profit or feed off hatred convincing enough white people to focus their anger on the symptoms(the protests, rioting etc.) and not the disease producing the symptoms(institutional and cultural racism). It’s not all that different from the playbook used to discredit Kaep, I just hope more like yourself can now recognize that playbook for what it is.

My question for you is why do you think they didn't? This isn't the only officer that makes the police look bad and its a rare thing that other officers hold them accountable. I could show at least ten videos from yesterday alone of officers acting completely inappropriately and only one has another officer stopping them.
Thats not true. We hold officers accountable all the time. I myself have arrested 2 officers. Not all , or most departments have these issues. 99% of officers are good men and women

Cool.
So out of the estimated 800,000 officers in the US, that means only 8,000 are dirty.

I guess too late for that. The separate thread made right on this forum was made 2 days later, and is already 11 pages longer.

The "riots" are the focus now.

Wow. Man, THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THAT! You have NO idea how frustrating it was to try to explain this to people and have them hem, haw, and deflect basically defending white supremacy without SAYING they were defending white supremacy.

THANK YOU, SIR!!

And what were those arrests for? Were they for crimes off duty? Fraud? Domestic abuse? Because I somehow doubt they stemmed from the day to day acts of policing that gets out of hand and no one says anything. Were all 4 of those cops coincidentally the bad ones in Minn? Or was it a single bad cop and 3 good ones who said nothing? Or was it 4 good ones that were doing what they were trained to do? What about the hundreds of cops who have witnessed non-proportional force over the last few days and don't stop their comrades in the midst? I work with cops and I can tell you it's not an individual issue for the most part. It's the us vs them culture promoted within the units. Why do the 99% of good cops not stop the ones shooting at journalists, the ones knocking the stuffing out of folks yelling at them, hosing a crowd with pepper spray indiscriminately out of moving vehicles or attempting to run over protesters today? I have yet to see that happen in those instances. Cops have been the instigators far more than the protesters and are throwing gas on a fire with their over aggressive tactics.

So when are we going to find out why a cop with 20 complaints in the past was allowed to still be on the force or at the very least, not assigned to a desk job? This guy seems to be a hothead unfit for the job. One or another should have happened. The higher ups of the department screwed up bad here.

I’m not saying the guy should have been a cop but i’m sure many cops get complaints. It’s part of the job for them and they know it. Which is probably a small part of the problem. Nobody likes being arrested. It’s not like leaving a yelp review. Those complaints that went unpunished probably fueled his ego and made him feel invincible. I saw some of the complaints in an article and they all seemed 50/50 to me. That’s why body cams On Cops should be mandatory by law.
