So honestly how will you feel if Payton eventually ends up coaching the Cowboys? (2 Viewers)

I would not cheer for him at all if this happened.

I use to live in San Antonio (Cowboy Country) and their fans hated the Saints because they feel like we stole their coach. When Bounty Gate happened, they thought we were going to fire Payton and he was going to go to the Cowboys. They have been wanting him for a long time and I would continuously tell them that he would never work for Jerry.

It kind of bothers me that it seems that’s where he’s always wanted to be even with Brees and co. I’ll always be thankful for his time here but will absolutely root against any team he coaches especially the Cowboys. I almost think Mrs B and Mickey might be done playing the game with the Cowboys and are maybe glad to see him go. Speculation, yes.

But just going by how the Benson's have treated SP I'm worried that they wouldn't make a big deal about compensation if he decides to come back after a year. Most owners would make a huge deal out of it and demand the most they can possibly get. I just don't see Gayle Benson putting her foot in the ground and making demands. Seems more likely that she would say that SP won a Super Bowl in New Orleans so he's free to do what he wants.
Glad I'm not the only person who's gotten this vibe from Gayle. Based on the interview she gave yesterday, I got the impression she would let him get away for nothing because of the goodwill of a Superbowl he won twelve years ago, and I hate it.

I don't think Loomis would let her do that. Its her team, but i don't think she would spurn Loomis over it.

I don’t think the business man in Loomis will allow this.

How does one feel that immediately after he gets traded, he returns to coaching?

Would not that be a forking slap to the face by Payton or what? I’m starting to feel like I want to hate him. This sucks so bad.

Give me 2 1sts, 2 2nds, Cedeee Lamb, Parsons, and Cooper

If I am being completely honest, he would be considered dead to me regardless of the Superbowl he brought.

I wish I could trust to this. Them allowing Payton to take a year off is going to reduce his trade value, even though it shouldn't because we all know what he's actually worth. I feel like they're setting this all up to make it easier for the next team to trade for him.

No it wouldn't sit well with Loomis at all. Just think about all the work he's put in all these years going all in trying to win another Super Bowl. And then SP is like "Deuces!" when Drew retires, the cap is in shambles, and there's no QB in sight. Lol of course Mickey wouldn't like it. But if Gayle feels like SP paid his dues and he's free to live his best life then what is Loomis going to do? Write a strongly worded letter? Storm out of her office? Threaten to resign? No. He'll have to take it on the chin if that's the way Gayle wants to handle it.

Now maybe the Saints get a token 1st or 3rd but I highly doubt we'd get anything close to what the Raiders got for Gruden.

Personally, after watching the presser yesterday, I'm not convinced he'll return to coaching. He clearly stated that while he'd be open to coaching again, he also said his heart isn't in it at this time. I think he means that. Everyone thought Cowher would return to coaching, he's still a talking head on TV. He loves it and has no interest in coaching now. Gruden did for a while and only went to the Raiders after they offered him a king's ransom. Jimmy Johnson, Joe Gibbs, Mooch all have shown there's plenty of life after coaching. Others have moved to the front office or found other careers. Not many have retired then got back into it, relatively speaking. Payton gave us 16 years, which is an eternity in coaching. I'll always respect what he did, even if he went to the Cowboys or Falcons, I don't really care. He can and should do what he wants.

If he does return to coaching, the Saints have leverage until 2024. I suggest they use that to get at least 2 first round draft picks, or a proven playmaker. If he were to go to Dallas, I want either Parsons or Lamb. If Atlanta, I want the draft picks. If anywhere else, it would depend on the personnel and draft picks available. If I'm Gayle/Loomis, I'm not letting him go without compensation. It's business.

If he leaves for Dallas, then he leaves for Dallas. It might be a hard pill to swallow, but it's the harsh reality of the situation.

For whatever reason, the cowgirls never scared me; they may be able to do some damage w/ CSP but will HE have what it takes left in the tank? From the presser? I'd say "No Way"!

When he says his heart isn't in coaching right now, that to me tells me he's probably done. Time will tell tho.

Cowher was a winner but I don't think he had the same spark as Payton did when he retired. I'm sure he could have still had a job somewhere if he wanted one, but I believe he was viewed as a coach that needed to go.
