I dislike him. He’s smug, blames others for his mistakes, and a horrible leader.

Good points. But the only ones who had to BELIEVE these two things were possible was the management & coaching staff. It seems unlikely that Carr himself was going to admit that he wasn't going to be an improvement over Andy Dalton. Unless someone would have been able to prove otherwise, they saw Carr as the answer to our QB woes.On #1, it was crazy to think he was capable of more than so many OCs and HCs could get out of him. The most that should have been expected was him playing at his best level seen over his career so far.
On #2, it was even more crazy to expect this as nobody in the building has ever taking anyone from mediocrity to star. Once again the expectation should only have been for Carr to play to the maximum he’s shown. Any belief that they were going to get MORE was a pipe dream.
If you get rid of him next year. His dead cap hit is 54 million. We are starting next year over the cap. Mickeys plan is too convert that to a signing bonus. You must not really understand the salary cap. You just regurgitate the 150mil figure like it's REAL. He only has 100mil guaranteed. What that means is for 4 yrs he's only guaranteed 25mil a yr which puts him way down on the list of highest paid QBs
How about a film study by a guy that ACTUALLY played games in the NFL
And how about one where he actually HAD a decent coach
I just think that’s Carr. If we had a head coach with some intestinal fortitude he would tell Carr to leave that to him. Our head coach holds no players or coaches accountable! It’s sickening to watch him do nothing for 3 hours. This is the huge problem on our team. There is no boss hog! When Payton was here the whole franchise knew where the buck stopped. Nobody was safe from his ire and through that came respect. If players messed up , they made sure they came off the field a long way from Coach Payton. I think this is one of the biggest reasons we are where we are right now.The reason you never saw Drew doing those things is because Sean Payton was doing those things himself. Like a good head coach would. Somebody has to get P'Oed during games and make those corrections on the spot. Our coaches have left that job to Carr because nobody else on the field seems to care.
And instead DA commends their "fight" on the field. You just can't make up that level of ineptitude.I just think that’s Carr. Olave is running an option route on that play, he correctly sits down with defenders on either side of him. Defenses will bracket that route in single high as they did here, but that opens up the deep route in a 1v1 matchup.I'm not a Carr fan, but I'm pretty sure he saw that LBer waiting to jump that throw to Olave.
Imo that's a shotty play design that took a receiver in man coverage and moved him to where he can pick up a 2nd defender
Our passing game has gotten worse because EVERYONE ( Except TH) has regressed. Last yrs walking-wounded Oline played better than the mostly healthy one this yr. Pass-pro was abysmal Sun. Olave, while he seems to have gotten better was playing like crap for a few game stretch. MT when healthy is just not the same guy. Yes DC has not played well but he's the only real player change the other guys have just gotten worse. The only thing that has gotten worse is our passing game, and we’ve only made one big change there. It’s fair to put a lot of the blame on that one change whether you like the coaching staff or not.
And yes, he was doomed from the start because, as you said, he has never been great. Unfortunately, we paid him like he was. I don’t want to hear about the current market for QB’s, you either have the guy or you don’t, you don’t pay the mid tier guys like we paid Carr. They will keep you in .500 purgatory, leaving you without good draft assets and with less cap space to build a team that overcomes their weaknesses. If we really think this guy needs an ultra-tailored game plan as a pocket QB, he is not worth anywhere near what we paid him. New arms are coming out of college every year, and plenty of vets are willing and able to do what he has done this year for a fraction of a fraction of the price.
I agree with you on a lot of things but DC is NOWHERE near close to where he has been in the past, not stat wise and not performance-wise. He was MUCH better in LVSure, but as you said, the team went after him, not the other way around. Jamal Williams has fallen off a cliff compared to last season with the Lions and there aren’t 10 threads about him. Carr statistically is pretty close to where he has been.
The thing is most players have regressed , especially the Oline , where it all starts. If the Oline was playing just at their 19-20 level you'd see a difference. MT did not return to the players he was. Olave started well then regressed to half hearting it sometimes, now he seems to be back on track, PC calls a good play now and then but he's not even the same guy that called players in 12. The team has a normal size body and a little head and the DA the head needs to goIf that’s the case we shouldn’t have paid what we did and just rode it out with Dalton to get those other pieces needed. People’s anger is coming from the dream we were sold. We were never sold that we were still seeking pieces or even rebuilding. It’s worse because we were relatively healthy the first few weeks compared to the past and still found ways to lose. This falls on the 21-45 head coach we have and he’s going down with his hand picked QB.
Best of circumstances? Whatis that? I guarantee that if SP was here we'd be at least 9-4 maybe 10-3 and already have won the division , WITH the same personnel. DC had quite a few moments of being an above-average to very good QB in LV when he had good coaching, heck even when Del Rio was HC he was 3rd in the MVP voting and they went 12-4 and Del Rio is not a great coachIt also begs the question, even in the best of circumstances would Derek Carr magically become a great QB and a leader of men?
To me, this is just a another bad decision by personnel folks (Loomis, et al) to placate an incompetent head coach.....
Both can be true....(which was kind of my point all along)....
I live 15 minutes from Oakland and have seen quite a lot of Derek Carr before this year. I don't "follow" the Raiders, but they were the team on TV. I've seen enough that I was luke warm on him signing with the Saints but open to seeing what a change of scenery could do for him.I agree with you on a lot of things but DC is NOWHERE near close to where he has been in the past, not stat wise and not performance-wise. He was MUCH better in LV.
