Report: Saints 1 of 9 teams scheduled to formally meet with Boise St. RB Ashton Jeanty at NFL Combine

Is there any data showing anything to warrant concern over college usage impacting a career?

I’ve never really heard of this ever being a concern from any of the so-called experts and former scout types, and surely Jeanty isn’t the first superstar collegiate back to see heavy usage throughout his career.

"Conclusion:
There is no correlation between the number of carries by college running backs and future injury risk or performance during their early NFL career."

I don't know that there are any studies or anything but I've often times heard it talked about that some RBs have a lot of wear and tear and some guys you hear positive stuff about them not having a lot of carries in college. Kamara was one of those guys that had few carries in college so it was a positive that he had not taken a beating.

I'll add that RB careers used to be a good bit shorter before teams started rotating RBs. It could be why we see more RBs playing well into their 30 these days?

Anyway, I don't really know if there is hard evidence that it can be an issue. That's why I called it a concern and not a red flag or a definite reason why he should not be drafted.

That's interesting but I wonder if there is any work done on if it affects the longevity of a RBs NFL career? That's really more my concern than whether a RB would get injured early in their career. That study only looks at the first 3 years of a RBs career.

I'll say this. If he's the best player take him. You don't pass on Barry Sanders so you can fill a hole with a decent _________. If he's graded as highly as they're saying, we will be fortunate to draft him at 9. Y'all should be afraid of us trading up for him. I feel that way about any player in this draft. Get the absolute best available regardless of position.

Assuming the scouting grades justify it and have him pegged in the elite category, I actually think we SHOULD mull dangling our extra third to move up to 7 for him.

He’s that good.

Based on what should be available at 9, I think he's going to be high on their list and as well as the BPA. There's rumblings out there saying there's little difference between picks 10-35. And if there's truth to the drop off, you have to take BPA.

Dude. No. Just no. If he's BPA when we pick fine, but we should not force the pick for him when we have so many other needs. The only position we should consider trading up for is QB.

Maybe in a subsequent draft. The consensus is that this is a weak QB class.
For sure, the number of upgrades needed is huge.

I'm not saying we should, but with this team that's the only position they should consider it for. So, if say they think Ward is going to be great, I would get it. But not for any other position or any other QB in this draft for that matter.

Yes, in principle, and given the current state of the team, only if they think a QB is a potential star, should they trade up. That might happen in 2026. I hate trading up, but if it’s for a superb QB, it might have to be done— especially remembering what happened with Mahomes.

Hope shouldn’t be a strategy. That said, I’d like to see a draft of many players in 2025 and a great QB in 2026, even if trading up is necessitated. That way, the new QB has the surrounding cast he needs to succeed.
