I've been to dozens of games in dozens of cities. The dome is downtown and less than a mile from the center of the party universe.
As for being right next to the highway, that's a good thing and if you can't afford the $20 for parking - stay home.
In the first instance, the dome is NOT less than a mile. If you'd look at a map, you'd see that. It's about a mile and a quarter as the crow flies, which means that it's at least a mile and a half, or a 25 min walk. I've done it. And you have to get through a few undesirable areas on the way. In the second case, tell all the season ticket holders like me to stay home whenever they complain about another season ticket price hike because they have to underwrite club fees and stadium improvements. I'm guessing you're either a guy with lots of disposable income or you don't have season tickets. By the way, parking is $25 now.
In any case, read the Sports Illustrated article posted by a previous poster. The dome gets a 42 out of 70 rating. Pretty bad.
The Superdome is already right at the top with number of suites...
I said NFL, not the NFC South. I remember it from an article in the Times-Pic. I believe that Arnie Fielcow was making the quote and commenting on how the Superdome had a lot of suites, but they were in serious need of updating and businesses to buy them. If I am not mistaken, as of today, the suites are sold out and newly renovated.Suite numbers for NFC South
Atlanta: 203
Tampa: 195
Carolina: 159
New Orleans: 137

"undesirable neighborhoods?" um, where? you walk down poydras to the Quarter...that's about as safe as any city in the country...we have 6 million tourists down that way each year...what route are you taking, lol. "get a map"? seems like you should look again at your map. Instead of cutting through the projects, just stroll past the high rise office buildings and fancy hotels down poydras to get to the quarter...and by the way "as the crow flies" the quarter is .55 miles from the dome and about .70miles if you walk down poydras to bourbon...if you have some sort of agenda, at least use accurate facts and don't make them up...
I don't know about what you do when you attend Saints game, but every time I go to a Saints game and I visit the FQ after (which is pretty much every time) I see an awful lot of folks there who look like they just came from a Saints game. I also see a lot of folks there before the game. I know for a fact that many of them are locals both before and after games. Many have their own traditions (such as a pre-game Bloody Mary from Fat Harry's) that take them through the FQ before and/or after games.Do you think that tourists know exactly where to walk? Most tourists will walk down Loyola as soon as they hit it. Either that or they're taking taxis, and the whole location argument is moot. Most Saints fans are not the ones walking to the quarter anyway. They're headed to their cars to go home. Who cares how conveniently the Dome is placed in reference to the FQ; locals don't go there after games! Also your map must be printed in Pakistan, because mine says it's at least 1 mile to Canal and Baronne in a straight line. Like I said, I've walked the route a few times for Superdome events, parades and such. A new stadium located next to the river near the convention center makes FAR more sense. The Dome is an antique; there are facts and figures that say as much. Too many times we put money above progress. And yes, I have an agenda: I work for a stadium-study group that just makes money promoting retractable-roof stadiums. Give me a break.
