METAIRIE, La. – Day five of New Orleans Saints training camp is in the books and so is the always highly anticipated first day in pads. It was another day of strong defensive efforts as the physicality stepped up to the next level. While the young quarterbacks made some plays here and there, it was mostly an underwhelming day from the group as everyone acclimates to wearing pads again for the first time since the beginning of the year.

There was a lot of focus on installing the run game with a couple of nice runs to highlight. But overall, the standouts were again the team’s edge rushers.

Chase Young, Carl Granderson Continue to Shine

The team’s edge rusher tandem has likely been the most consistent area of success for the Saints early in camp. Each day, both have found their way into post-practice notes or had their names uttered during media availability as they receive credit for their performances.

The age-old question of whether or not the two are performing really well versus the offensive line struggling will always remain and will have to be evaluated once the lights are on and the team isn’t practicing against itself. But for now if there’s a reason for optimism around the team’s new defensive approach, it’s this duo. ...

So far in training camp, the New Orleans Saints have done really well to avoid injuries. This has been the focus of head coach Kellen Moore in preparing the players’ bodies to prevent more minor injuries from piling up, as we have seen in past years. Still, there is only so much you can do to avoid injuries. But after yesterday’s practice, Moore announced that Saints All-Pro defensive back J.T. Gray is dealing with a lower body injury.

As of now, the specific injury and timetable are still unclear, but as Moore said, it should be more minor. If that is the case, the Saints will avoid a...

The New Orleans Saints have not been shy about making moves and acting quickly when they see an issue on the roster or an upgrade available. This could involve signing a replacement for someone no longer with the team or exploring upgrades on the open market. To make these moves, the Saints need to open up roster spots and on yesterday, it was announced that offensive tackle Josh Ball was released, per Nick Underhill.

With a roster spot now open, the Saints can bring in another player who may make an immediate impact on the roster. Some names that come to mind are WR Keenan Allen, CB...

The New Orleans Saints entered the 2025 Training Camp with another kicking battle on deck. Blake Grupe vs. Charlie Smyth: Part II has been both entertaining and informative for fans and staff to watch unfold through practices thus far.

After trading away Wil Lutz to the Denver Broncos ahead of the 2023 regular season, the Saints turned to Grupe as their starting kicker. He would finish that year with a shaky 81.1% conversion rate after going 30-37 on field goal attempts. Even with a perfect mark of 40-40 in the extra point category, New Orleans felt it was necessary to bring in someone to...

The New Orleans Saints practiced in pads for the first time on their fifth day of training camp on Monday.

Head Coach Kellen Moore has taken a sports science approach to this year’s training camp. The idea is that practices will be shorter but utilize the time better. While this approach has been a success at limiting injuries, the Saints experienced their first injury of training camp with veteran safety and special teams ace J.T. Gray. He is dealing with a lower-body injury.

When looking at the entire New Orleans Saints team, Demario Davis may be the best player on the roster. His ability to stay healthy, fly around the field, make massive tackles in the backfield, and captain the defense is vital to any success the Saints want to have. The only issue is that Davis is 36 years old, and at a position that relies on athleticism. Davis still makes plays and might be the most consistent player on the roster, but over the past two years, there have been times when the age shows. Once again, Davis is needed for the defense to work, and frankly, the Saints should be...
