A microcosm of Winston’s career (2 Viewers)

Um...Jameis is gettng sheet for it.
Plus, the haters won’t even acknowledge that the backup gets zero snaps with the starters practicing the actual game plan. Relatively speaking, the starting QB gets all the reps.

It’s crazy right? These guys are excusing the starter sucking because it’s his first year here (lol) and blame Olave, but then drag the backup for playing hero ball and falling short in his attempt to dig the offense out of a 27-3 hole.

Right and folks are conveniently not crediting Jameis for the 2 TD's in less than a quarter and a half when the offense to that point in the game almost 3 quarters in scored......3 freaking points......and I'm delusional? Good grief.....

Like I said, let him play an entire game against the Falcons if Carr can't go....if he throws multiple picks and we lose then y'all have a point but to just say "he is who he is" after the Vikes game is just insanely irrationally critical....
Man it is the exact and I mean the exact same thing as Carr.. they are who they are and they've both proven that over a long period of time.

I was very hopeful that Jameis was going to turn the corner here but the reality is that he just is what he is.

As Dubya so inarticulately said "... you can't get fooled again." Well, I did.

People keep saying this. Nick talked about it last night. He's as down on Carr as anyone (he likes Winston more), but he said there is no locker room issue there. Olave is not getting up for Winston and not for Carr. He said all the offensive players are behind Carr and like Carr.

Everything else is just fan-created, message board fodder.
Agree 100%.

Right, there was no reason to throw deep into triple coverage with just under 2 minutes left and 1st and 10 on the 48. And he clearly had 2 easier open targets underneath. Take what the defense gives and live to play another down.
Winston's default when the play breaks down (and sometimes even it doesn't) is to throw it up for grabs. Carr's is throw one yard dump offs.

Either way we lose.

He's played entire games more than enough times to know what we're getting in him. What he did was what he's typically done in the past. I'm not sure why we should expect any different now.

Hahahahha!!!!! "Could not seal the deal"?

He came in with less than a quarter and a half left 24 points down and got us to within one score of tying.....you have to be joking.....

Like I said, if he plays a full game and stinks it up (multiple picks leading to a loss) then he deserves this type of criticism but in this instance? Just folks looking foolish.....
The second half of the Green Bay game would like a word.

That's just for the benefit of anyone who's saying we should apply the same standard to everyone.

Of course, there's also the fact that we tend to absolutism and blame one factor, when in reality it's always a combination of several. Our staff plus OL, plus whichever QB is in the game, are not consistently leading to wins. Looking for a single root cause just feeds the tribalism and division.

I guess 2021 was just an anomaly, what folks seem to be missing is that he wasn't healthy for the little bit he played in 2022....we haven't seen a healthy Jameis since 2021 but....ok.....

It really probably doesn't matter who plays QB with this coaching staff anyways.....

I mean, we don't lose every time. We've split 5-5 as a mediocre team, and one of our losses, we were up 17-0 when Carr got hurt right after halftime and Winston couldn't do anything.

I understand some people don't like Carr because he doesn't make things happen in a pinch, and that's a legit criticism, but protecting the ball is actually a skill that has helped win games this year.

Carr needs to improve, but the answer isn't going to hero ball because it's more fun to watch but leads to nothing but losses.

Exactly, and were delusional....give me a freakin break.....

Winston is an experienced veteran. He's started, cone off the bench and done it all before. And he's gotten plenty enough snaps to know how to come in and do what he does.

And who's excusing Carr? He was meh at best yesterday before his injury. Ultimately, I think we all realize the coaching staff is gonna ride or die with Carr. They've already committed to him for the duration of the season unless an injury rules him out. It is what it is.

You got the last part right.

I do actually believe that Jameis' numbers in 2021 were a bit of an anomaly and that his actual play was not as good as the numbers reflected.

Like I said though, I was very hopeful that Jameis would put it together in 2022 and while he obviously was playing injured for 2/3 of the games he did start.. I personally felt that I saw the same issues from the previous year but without Payton at the helm to help him and without some of the good fortune he had in 2021.

You're probably right in regards to the coaching staff. It really starts there. Neither QB is gonna be successful without a change in leadership. So debating starting QB is somewhat moot at this point.

I am not going to read all the comments, but I will say I am not blaming Winston for the lost yesterday. And no I am not a Winston apologist.

There are literally posts excusing Carr for the reasons I said.

And believe it or not, coming into a blowout (down 27-3) in the second half after not getting reps all week with the 1’s during install, is very difficult even if you are a 8 year veteran.

This isn’t Madden where you can just show up and run the same plays every game.
