A microcosm of Winston’s career (1 Viewer)

There are literally posts excusing Carr for the reasons I said.
I didn't see them.
And believe it or not, coming into a blowout (down 27-3) in the second half after not getting reps all week with the 1’s during install, is very difficult even if you are a 8 year veteran.

This isn’t Madden where you can just show up and run the same plays every game.
He's done it before and it's not new territory. No one is saying it's easy to do that. But he handled it well. The problem is those 2 interceptions he threw, particularly the second one, were shots that didn't need to be taken. First was a 3rd and 3 and second was a 1st and 10 on the 48. Neither shot was necessary, and both were well covered when he had better options underneath.

It's typical Winston. His body of work over the years can pretty well be encapsulated in his performance yesterday.

You're probably right in regards to the coaching staff. It really starts there. Neither QB is gonna be successful without a change in leadership. So debating starting QB is somewhat moot at this point.

Payton was crucial for turning Winston around. Winston gets hurt, Payton leaves, that was the end of Winston.

Perspective check; As others have noted, the biggest problem is the coaching staff, another problem is having $150 mil invested in a flawed, mid-at-best QB when that level of play could be had at replacement level salary.

Having a backup who will be gone next year throw 2 ints after cutting a 27-3 deficit to 27-19 in a horribly schemed passing attack is not good, but hardly in the top 5 of yesterday’s or this year’s problems.

What I'm willing to bet here is that coaching would've made a difference here. If CSP would've dialed up the play best believe he would've told him "if it isn't there......."

I'm willing to bet that good O- kidney again that nobody did Amy coaching leading up to that errant throw.

An 8 year vet that has started 7 games in the last 3.5 seasons...surely he has to fight against ring rust as well

I am not going to read all the comments, but I will say I am not blaming Winston for the lost yesterday. And no I am not a Winston apologist.
No he didn't lose the game. The defense lost the game the offense did zero till Winston came in. Then he did what he does. We wouldn't have been close with out those two TDs. But that last int was a stupid throw that no competent QB would have made and it sealed the loss. Winston's accomplishments are negated by his failures.

Certainly, I don't blame Winston for the loss, at all. I'm simply saying what we got from him yesterday is what we've usually gotten from him in the past. It was peak Winston.

The only time I've ever seen him play consistently well and with few turnovers was his injury shortened season when Payton had him as the starter from the jump. And Jameis was basically handcuffed to some degree to keep the turnovers low.

It worked well, but without Payton at the helm, he's gone back to what he's always been the other 7 seasons of his career.

He hasn’t had a chance to be healthy and start since Payton. JW will never be the QB here, but he will still get another chance with another team, even if it’s a prove-it backup deal.

If DA and Carr fail in NO, they will both never get the same chances again. For Allen that means to be HC again and for Carr it means that if he fails here his days of signing 8 figure deals and being given a starting job without competition are over.

This is why DA would never start Winston and it’s probably why Carr is so all up on his feels all the time.

This 100%. Jameis certainly did not lose us that game he made some plays that gave us a chance.. it's just that unfortunately Jameis made a bad play and forced something when it didn't have to be forced and that pretty much was the end of our run at it.

No Taysom involvement till Jameis went in, 3 points scored by the starter in over a half, and y'all are blaming the backup for a *checks notes* 9-point loss when he came into the game down 24.
Did someone else toss that interception when we only needed a 1st down?

Sure, I've been saying all along that the coaching staff has already hitched their wagon to Carr and they're gonna ride with him win or lose. It is what it is at this point. Arguing qbs just seems to be pointless at this juncture.

It also seems pointless for people to blame the backup but that is what a significant percentage of the posters here are doing.
