I don't mind playing "devil's advocate" at times to try and get others to look at things differently. Your childish comments do give me a chuckle, though.
Step up to the plate, big boy, and cover someone's time off.
Or is your money better than somone else's life? lol
I guess if your money is better than my health, then only you can make that choice.
What is childish is saying you will come to work knowingly sick with Covid and infect others.
Also i step up quite nicely for the people who work for me. I have no problem getting my hands dirty helping out when someone is not here while out sick, and also have no problem letting them work OT to make up for it if need be, but i understand not all companies will do that. But if they knowingly come to work infected with Covid, they will most probaly be fired.
But at the end of the day, you and ONLY you can make the choice not to infect co workers by coming into work knowingly with Covid.

Take it to PM or let it go. The sniping back and forth isn't really adding anything to the thread.

Thanks.

And if your money is better than someone's else health, then you, too, can make that choice.
What is also childish is not actually reading what I have said in my posts (not just those directed toward you) and being able to read between the lines. Or perhaps that is intentional on your part. I have never said that I would try to affect anyone. Of course, you should be able to see that.
If you do help others that have to miss work, then that is commendable. Judging others for having to make difficult decisions is not.
But, why not put more money where you mouth is? Why not offer to cover others' pay that may have to miss work that don't work for you?
Those people don't matter to you? You couldn't care less whether they infect others and cause deaths? Give me a break and get off your high horse.
As you can see from many of the posts, your company's policy is crap! Own it! Or, better yet, try and change it.

You are the one who said that if you were positive and felt well enough to come to work, you would and try your best not to expose yourself to others. because you couldn't afford to miss 5 days (whether its monetary or workload). There are no lines to read bewteen.
This is the last reaponse i will say on it:
IMO, if you go to work knowingly positive with covid and are around others, then you are a terrible person, again Just my opinion, which means very little...
I have made my position known to my boss how i feel about the change in policy, thats all i can do.
So be well and hopefully you'll never have to make that call.

I'll try and abide by Dave's request. All I can offer is for you to read the other posts that I have made. If you don't have the ability to see the difference in that and what you are implying, then I don't know what else to say.
I hope that none of us have to make that call. My other hope is that you'll try and do something to make it easier at your company by getting that terrible policy changed.
Have a great day!

I don't mind if this conversation turns towards policy.
I do think companies need to have some type of Covid PTO. May not be the best policy, but at least for Vaxxed employees.
Of the 9 people at out our location, 6 have been vaxxed. Now that the company that we contract for has changed their policy to either be vaxxed or have weekly testing for all employess and embedded contractors, 2 of them are now considering getting vaxxed. The other says she will deal with the testing. Also if you are unvaxxed you must wear a mask all the time, even while at your work station, even if no one is around. (which i find pretty odd).

My employer does allow you to donate leave hours to someone who needs them. Before COVID, seems like a lifetime ago, someone would send an email on your behalf if you were out for a prolonged time because of cancer, child's illness, etc. And this is great if your employer allows it.

It is crappy to have to use it for Covid, that’s for sure. The second week of this last Christmas vacation was spent on the couch with Covid. I earn 160 a year and can carry one year so I do have to find a way to use 4 weeks every year because my bank is full. It’s hard to take off too long because no one does my job, customer get ticked and I come back to a nightmare.
For putting my health on the line just by coming to work I get 20 whole days a year which is for holidays, sick, and vacation.

This company is the pits, and is one of the reasons I’m seriously considering walking away from health care.

We now have 3 positive residents, and 19 staff members in various stages of quarantine. Here we go again…

A 7-year-old Canadian girl at the center of a COVID-19 vaccine dispute between her parents has been taken by her anti-vaxxer father and is being held at an undisclosed location to keep her from getting inoculated, the girl’s mother says.

Mariecar Jackson has secured two court orders demanding that her daughter, Sarah Jackson, be returned to her care. But authorities haven’t been able to track down her ex-husband to enforce the orders, according to her lawyer, Jill Drennan, who told CBC News that a police visit to his home in Carievale only revealed that the two were not there.

“We don’t believe they are in the community any more. She could be out of province,” Drennan, the director of Regina’s rural legal aid office, was quoted saying of the girl’s home in Saskatchewan province.

“We simply don’t know where she is. We are asking the public for help,” she added..........

The girl’s father, meanwhile, publicly claimed to be on a mission from God.

“I want everybody to see that Sarah’s healthy, she’s happy,” he said on the online talk show, before saying he decided to flee with his daughter because an unspecified “they” were “coming for our children.”

Jackson said he had his daughter at his home in Carievale for a scheduled visit in November, and once he heard the news that the vaccine had been approved for children, he decided not to return her to her mom, whom he knew to be supportive of vaccination efforts.

“I couldn’t let it happen,” he said of the vaccination, adding: “I had to protect my daughter from it.”

The talk show’s host responded to Jackson’s concerns by showing an apparently unverified social media post from a Facebook user who said her child had died after getting the COVID-19 vaccine. The two then mocked Jackson’s ex-wife before he turned the camera to his daughter and asked her to tell viewers why she didn’t want to get vaccinated.

“Because it can change your DNA and I don’t believe God wants me to. And it can make you sick and kill you,” she said.

The interview concluded with the girl’s father suggesting the Bible had warned of the coronavirus pandemic and referencing “mass psychosis.”

“I’m doing what God wants me to do,” he said............

Can we agree that employers in general should give paid sick leave - for most illnesses? I don't want someone coming to work with the flu, COVID, a norovirus, whatever. Being sick sucks. It's also, not great from a worker productivity standpoint.

I was almost to 8 weeks time off in December and got another job offer. It seemed like a really good opportunity but my current company does not pay out time off when you leave. That coupled with starting with no time off for the first year with the new job made me stay. I couldn’t walk away from almost $20,000 in time off.

At my previous place of employment vaccinated employees got 14 "covid days" on top of our accrued PTO. If we got COVID or had to Quarantine due to exposure we could use our 14 COVID days before having to hit PTO. We did have a few people who got REAL SICK and missed more than the 14 days, including my supervisor, she was out for 6 weeks.

This is primarily an American issue. Many people lack the access to healthcare and even if you can afford to miss the pay, some people can't afford the doctor's copay, or payment towards deductible. People I know (in the service industry) have been urged by employers to come to work "if it's not too bad"

We do "work" and "healthcare" wrong and no one wants to talk about that.

At the beginning of the pandemic in the pandemic rescue act or whatever it was called the government paid back up to 14 covered days to company's I believe now that companies are having to come out of their own pockets those kinds of policies have started to dry up.

You should have taken an 8 week vacation and then taken the new job.
