Bears hire Ben Johnson as HC to 13M/yr ; former/Saints HC Dennis Allen is Bears DC, former/Saints asst Declan Doyle is Bears OC (3 Viewers)

Smart for Johnson. Since Allen has failed as a HC 2x, unless he comes in and is horrible he’s likely to be a long term DC in the Spagnuolo mold. Johnson will be able to build a stable program w/ consistent schemes.

Jury is out on if Caleb Williams is the right QB but in theory they have the right HC. If Caleb is, the Bears have a chance to do a quick 180

Yeah like that foundational piece that SP insisted on Marcus Davenport. And what about those cornerstones of D Stephone Anthony and Hau'oli Kakaha
Gotta disagree with you on this one

I am talking about the culture of the building in terms of foundation, not the personnel.

Saints are going to settle on Mike McCarthy! Watch and see!
Settle? I’ll settle any day for a coach with almost an identical record in his career up and down as Payton. We could do a heck of a lot worse than MM. I mean just look at the last calendar year, Allen and Rizzi at HC. Yea, it could be a whole lot worse than MM

The Saints will Saint and be boring with their head coach pick and their draft pick. Because they have to be.

The Saints need defensive and offensive line help immediately. Draft those positions. You can find a WR in the fourth round.

Mike McCarthy, while not the sexy, daring pick, is most likely going to be the head coach due to his somewhat familiarity with the Saints and Mickey. He is a winning head coach though and that is what Loomis is going to sell to the fans.

No, the Saints are not going to find a young upstart like McViegh. It will be boring but it should produce decent results.

i'm not opposed to MM. I view him as the safest hire; probably the highest floor, but probably not the highest ceiling. He'd be a step up. But with that acknowledgement made, the "we could do a whole lot worse than...." mindset is what led the Saints to DA and Derek Carr. Which, in fact, appears to have been worse. I wanna see a homerun swing. The goal isn't improvement, although improvement is required. The goal isn't NFCS division title or playoffs, although they are a necessary by-product of working to achieve THE GOAL. The GOAL is LOMBARDI trophies.

I wanna see the Saints hire the guy they believe is most likely to win a Superbowl! It might be the "safest" candidate, but I want to see a fundamental shift in Saints Executives' philosophy from "it could be worse" to "this guy is gonna win a SB someday.....it might as well be HERE!".

He's inheriting a pretty talented team that just has been awfully out of sync for one reason or another. I'm curious to see what he can do with them.

So we gonna need a HC ,DC ,OC and ST coach ?

That's what misery looks like .

What did you think was going to happen when we fired the HC in the middle of the season? We were going to keep everyone and just hire a new HC? That's not how this ever works.

McCarthy has won a Superbowl and been in 4 NFC Championship games. How much higher do you think the ceiling gets? You just hope that one of the sexy young OCs can achieve that whereas you know that McCarthy can.

I get wanting the sexy shinny new thing, but McCarthy isn't settling. He has a very high floor, but he also has a very high ceiling. This hire would be nothing like DA who had failed miserably in his first shot as a HC. The hope with DA was that he would learn from prior mistakes and get better. McCarthy already knows how to win a Superbowl.

I did say I wasn't opposed to MM. Can't disagree with anything you said, although it's been many seasons since he won a playoff game, let alone advanced deep in the playoffs. I'll give him a pass with the Cowboys, because they're the new Raiders (dysfunctional) with Jerry in charge instead of Al Davis. But he was left go from GB for a reason. If Saints see him as a coach capable of a rebuild/reload, I want better than "we could do worse." If they see MM as a SB COACH, I'm good with that. Since none of us can sit in on interviews and report the real situation, I can only HOPE it's the 2nd. I'm not advocating for MM, nor opposed to MM. I'm opposed to the "safe route" and advocating to swing for the bleacher seats. We're certainly talking to enough candidates to get a feel. If MM is the homerun swing, so be it.

My question is - why do people think they know more about what it takes to win a Super Bowl or think they know better about each and every candidate?

Seriously, why are people so confident in these “never been a HC” coordinators that for all we know are bombing interviews or showing their inexperience in these sit downs are better options?

What if I told you that Joe Brady, Kellen Moore, or whoever is viewed as somewhat immature and may not be able to command a locker room? What if one of the candidates have concerns being raised and/or is getting absolutely destroyed by his references from past co-workers?

Not saying that true or not, just saying what qualifies people here to be so confident that McCarthy ISN’T the best solution today when there is very little actual evidence that the other guys are?

To me it seems more of an intrigue of the unknown/shiny new toy syndrome than anything actually concrete. Couple that with the general hate and distrust for anything the front office does these days, and here we are. Suddenly everyone thinks hotshot young coordinators with no HC experience and without access to their interviews are better options.

Not directing this specifically at you, but in general. People are acting like they are in the room with these interviews and have access to all data that goes into these decisions.
