Opinion Brian Flores Is the only Defensive HC that should be considered by the Saints. The Vikings are not going to keep him past this yr. (1 Viewer)

Good DCs, bad HCs, hard on players they don't like and get rid of them. They are a lot a like. What he did to Tua should disqualify him from ever being a HC.

It doesn't matter, he won't be the next HC.
Not really but ok

I really don't know how anyone just ignore the Flores and Tua issues. I don't want Flores anywhere near a QB that needs development. Considering where we are at... He's not hirable since we'll probably drafting one sooner than later.

I'm not ignoring them.

Taking the penalty, getting the stop...made the FG longer, and he misses it. Good coaching there.

Today's Miami game highlighted everything. He couldn't make Tua work. Other than concussions, Tua has been playing well since McDaniels took over.
Exactally, it is about setting your young QB up with the right coaching. Tua looks great when he is healthy.

Look at the Panthers all of a sudden the light finally looks like it may have went on for Bryce Young. He now has a good coach that knows how to develop a QB. Think if they had did that from day 1. Essentially his development restarted at the beginning of this year (it got him benched) had they done it right the first time he would light years from where he is at now. Suddenly, it looks like he is having fun again playing football.

It’s why we need to be very careful in who we pick to be our coach and Flores is not the guy you want anywhere near a rookie QB.

This is part of why I don't want Flores. I think we'll be looking to get one of the young QBs in there sooner than later and I want an offensive minded coach with experience working with and developing a young QB.

Just say no.............................................................................to Flores.

Like I've said , I do like Rizzi. It's just there is nothing to go on to tell if he knows the offensive or defensive side of the ball well enough to be an NFL HC, at least with a successful OC or DC you know that they know 1 of the 2 most important aspects of football.
Since way more HCs fail than are successful and almost all have been DCs or OCs then logic says that most of the ones that fail would have been OCs or DCs, in fact I'd say that about 90% are

John Harbaugh is an anomaly, one of a kind. Most of his experience is in ST, but not ALL.
You know as well as I do that Ast. HC title is used to hire away a coach to the same position to get around the lateral move thing the NFL has. And also to keep a coach from taking the same position with another team.

The last 7 games will tell if Rizzi is a serious HC candidate because it's his only real experience at this level other than ST.
As of right now for me Rizzi's biggest draw other than he is a firey guy is that face that he'd almost for sure keep Kubiak.
I'm just not ready to put my hopes in hiring a guy hoping for a 1 of a kind anomaly like Harbaugh

I just don’t agree with your point of view that someone being a special teams coach at this level means they don’t know football in general. You talk about special teams coaches like they’re complete imbeciles that don’t know ball nor are capable of learning.

Besides, like Harbaugh, you go with this model for the purposes of leadership, a “Leader of Men” model, and he leans on his coordinators to run the offense and defense.

Most ST coaches are the firey in your face type of coaches and they are easy to like. I by no means think ST coaches are imbeciles. I prefer the next HC have more experience coaching offense or defense @ a high level which Rizzi has none.

Once again Harbaugh is an anomaly, a one of a kind. I'm all well and good with the " Leader of Men" type HC, in fact I think it's a must. But I'd prefer that he be that AND have experience coaching offense or defense at a high level.

Rizzi's fate will be determined in the 8 games he's HC. There is almost always a natural bump when a HC is fired for losing the locker room like DA was. If he goes 6-2 in those 8 games then he deserves serious consideration. For me, the biggest draw about Rizzi is that he will more than likely keep Kubiak. The players we have are built to run his offense, especially the OL and AK and Miller are perfect RBs for it as well. The whole offensive staff is one of the best in the league. Woods, I'm not sold on yet

This x100. If not this then just stick with Rizz. The fire coming outta his rear at least makes the team fun.

Hey Dan, While I like Rizzi as a motivator I do have some concerns that he has only been a ST coordinator in the NFL. He's never been a OC or DC or even a position coach in the NFL or at a major college. He was HC at New Haven and Rhode Island. Do you think it could be a big learning curve for him to be a HC at the NFL level?

I'm not too worried. Being a coordinator is really kind of divorced from the actual job of HC. You see offensive and defensive coordinators become HC's more often because their play-calling/system is putting them on the map, garnering name recognition. But calling plays is really at the bottom fo the HC success pyramid.

So the ST coordinator stuff doesn't bother me at all. There are non-play-calling HC's all over the place at both the NFL and college level. If he's coaching in the NFL, he understands football. In short, he didn't cut his teeth coaching kickers. ...

If the Special Teams coordinator stuff doesn't bother TCUDan, then it doesn't bother me at all.

Exactly. He passes the eye rest for me and TCUDan reinforced my thoughts. I'm 100% behind Rizzi being the HC and keeping the OC staff in place. The D is TBD, but we've already started the new offense build and I'd like to see where that goes.
