Coach Pete Update: Not Good on Davenport. Some on Hill and Bridgewater, Some Saints Good News also (2 Viewers)

Who is Coach Pete been trying to figure it out. Know he is a real person gathering the evidence

I still want confirmation that he reported to camp overweight. But if he did, it was unacceptable and reflects on the draft selection.

A team does not give up two first-round picks to acquire a raw talent from Texas-San Antonio unless he checks off every box under intangibles such as work ethic and personal discipline and a hunger to be as good as he can be.

Well he was hungry alright. I guess he was eating chips instead of shedding em.

I agree. I'm no expert but how do you get the aerobics in with a bad foot? Probably a combination of a few things already mentioned EXCEPT no dedication to the game. All previously written pieces don't mention a lack of desire.

There have been a bunch of Who Dats through threads on SR who have strongly commented on what they perceived as a very underperforming Davenport. I was not one and I didn't think it was a problem.

No one that I saw or read made any comment about poor conditioning being a reason and the cause for the poor conditioning coming from his shyness, immaturity and lack of a dedicated Saint coach assigned to MD during the offseason.

I can't judge others, but what Coach Pete addressed seemed quite interesting to me and the 20 plus who have responded positively. For those of you who know so much, don't upset yourself, just don't read the Coach Pete threads.

Btw: Oh Wesleytx 13, you made my day. I think it's been a month since you neg repped one of my posts. My life today is now complete. If it makes you happy to neg rep my posts, I want you happy for the beginning of this great season for our Saints. Who Dat Bro!

Whatever the reason, Davenport has been owned in preseason. Has shown no improvement from last year. Last preseason you could see flashes of his athleticism on a number of plays. This preseason, he has been a ZERO!

Hey 44 - Weren't you one of the ones who noticed Davenports poor performance in preseason this year? If so, I hope this info from Coach Pete helps clarify that you were definitely correct and why. I was one of those who thought his poor performance so far was not a problem that could lag into the season.

You have good eyes!!! Thx

Hey RJ - can one of you get to Deuce or Streif and findout if they saw Davenport report out of condition? And then there is the question about former players ratting out on the current players. Is that just not done very often? Idk!

Let's make this thread really juicy.......

Coach Pete told me about 2-months after the season that Brees had told the Saints FO and SP that 2019 would be his last year. I've reported this on SR, but didn't want to make a topic of it knowing the negativity that would generate. Now it seems like a topic that can be discussed. Coach Pete said that Brees definitely showed age in the 2nd half of the season. That said, he also believes that Brees is good enough to lead us to another SB but that Brees is facing a fast-approaching father time

I have never turned on him. My reservations over the trade and draft selection go back to the last Thursday in April 2017.

And I have never conceded that he did report to the camp overweight, saying I wanted confirmation from another source. My comments concerned the hypothetical of Davenport being overweight and, if true, the additional concerns it raised.

Agree RJ! To me, it's not the 15 pounds or lack of conditioning themselves so much. If true, that would show immaturity, and or lack of dedication, and or lack of commitment to teammates and coaches, and or....

Like you, I would like to know. Thx

Seriously. Especially for a guy that tall. 15 lbs. could probably be dropped in a couple weeks. If that's the weight he showed up to camp at, I'm willing to bet it's already gone.

I ate publix fried chicken Monday night. Spent Tuesday and Wednesday in bed. Only ate 4 saltines on Wednesday. By Thursday I ate a chocolate covered reeses donut from Krispy Kreme and had lost 10 pounds and I'm 50.

He can do it!

Coach Pete has this information but the media doesn't? That would be a pretty big story that wouldn't just be an interesting tidbit for Saints beat writers. It would be a national story with Adam Schefter and Jay Glazer all over it.

If Drew told the front office and it hasn't been leaked yet, then he only told two people, SP and Loomis. If he told those two then yeah, I think they could keep that secret.

Drago - you make perfect sense again.

The following is just a possibility. The Central TX area, Austin and surrounding areas are still pretty tight in coaching. So many of the current high school and college coaches in the region coached under or with Pete. Brees still has deep ties to Central TX. If Brees or a family member told someone else in the area, it's probable that Coach Pete would hear the rumor early. But I'm just making that story up. The reality is that idk

Edit: Drago -Coach Pete is acting like this is a fact. He doesn't act like this unless he is pretty sure. I sure hope he is worng

I could understand if Pete was just speculating but if he's acting like he knows this for a fact, there's just no way. If a Central Texas trainer knows then everyone would know. Coach Pete certainly isn't keeping it a secret lol.

It was reported that Davenport (MD), reported to camp having added 15 pounds of muscle. Coach Pete found out that 15 pounds was fat around his gut. The Saints did not assign a designated coach to MD during the offseason. He showed-up to camp very out of shape and is struggling to get caught up. DA was not very happy about this - at all. For those of you that noticed MD not playing as well as you would have liked, your group was spot-on.

Hendrickson is having a good camp and the coaches are aware and excited about that, but he will never be a disruptor. However, he may well be a top rotational player. With MD still not in pro level shape, expect Henrdickson to see more playing time.

Coach Pete is hearing from Saints coaches that this is the most talented Saints team since 2009. The coaches expect the defense to make major improvements. Apple js looking very good as well as Marcus Williams. Bell has taken another step. Besides MD, the coaches are very pleased with the D-line.

According to Coach Pete, Bridgewater is not the long term replacement for Brees. He's a solid average QB and good leader, but has some major weaknesses in passing. Taysom Hill has made a major step forward but is also likely not the future QB after Brees. And Hill adds so much value in so many areas, the coaches are satisfied with the roles he is playing. And Hill's roles will be expanded this year again. Hill is doing better this year at adjusting his speed to the ball speed in the air from passes. The coaches have developed a limited playbook for Hill to exploit the seam from the slot and TE. He will be involved in pass receiving this year and Pete expects him to throw a good deal more this season.

If Brees holds up the entire year, the coaches think a SB is very attainable with this team.
A kid's judgement and probably was never pushed at his no-name university. He has to mature. I'm sure he'll turn it around, but does it have to be said again. keep payton out of the draft room. Giving up 2 number ones for an unknown player is just foolish and may set the franchise back for 2 years after this year. We had to pay Thomas an unusual amount of pay because we didnt use those number 1's for receivers or offensive linemen. We continue to have depth issues in those areas due to payton's poor decision making.

Whether it was 15 pounds around his gut or 10 pounds of overall water weight, showing up to camp pretty badly out of shape could well have a very negative impact on the play in the beginning of the season like Lattimore last year.

My point is showing up with water weight is not "badly out of shape". Boxers can lose and add twice as more weight than that the day before a fight.

And Lattimore struggled early becuase he also was trying to add/change technique to his game. He admitted his rookie year he was out there on instincts. It takes a while to change muscle memory. Davemport is probably doing the same things this year.

So like I said, this aint it champ.
