Coach Pete Update: Not Good on Davenport. Some on Hill and Bridgewater, Some Saints Good News also (3 Viewers)

I don't think 15 lbs extra are that big of a deal when you are listed as being 6'6", 265 lbs, and an elite athlete. 4 weeks later, he's probably back to 265 lbs.

Hopefully, you're right and lots of conditioning coaches are wrong. If he spends 2/3 of the season in mediocre play like Lattimore did last season, the Saints' pass rush will suffer.

When a trainer and former coach told us that the Saints were trying to move up to 12-14 to grab Marcus Davenport, most of us thought it was a joke, And he's nailed a couple of other things also. I don't doubt Coach Pete anymore. And yes, he is wrong at times and is the 1st to admit

I don't know who these lots of conditioning coaches are, but weight alone is no determination of performance. He could've shown up weighting the same 265 lbs he weighted after last season - or even less - and be out of football playing shape.

And a again, at 6'6" 265 lbs playing weight, 15 lbs isn't that big of a deal. He could shed that in a couple of weeks of training camp.

Ok that old guy Pete got the move for Davenport in the draft correct. That doesn’t mean he is infallible. He got a rumour and passed it on. Doesn’t mean he is an authority on player development. He hasn’t first hand experience with Davenport. People are pretty hard on Davenport but he aced the most important objective on preseason. Don’t get hurt. Old guy Pete has given no mechanical or coachable trait/ negative on Davenport. Just I heard he is fat. Brilliant analysis for the common fan

No one said he was, and he's admitted he doesn't get everything right, so what's the problem?

I previously outlined the problem. He doesn’t give any credible insight into his opinions. He is a coach is he not. That is his credibility. Yet he doesn’t mention anything about his play style, biomechanics or areas for improvement.

So, you don't expect 21-yr-olds to act like adults, especially when they're being paid millions of dollars? What planet are you from?

So immature young ppl who become rich automatically turn mature? No sir it actually doesn't work like that. In a perfect world maybe. In reality, there's literally millions of examples that becoming an adult by age alone is largely just a lable. No matter how much $ they have

Somewhere in the world there's a 30 something yr old guy who's unemployed, living in his parent's basement n smoking a fat blunt

Meanwhile, there's a teenage kid somewhere that's about to commit a haneous crime n will be tried as an "adult"

If there was any concern about Davenport's weight, Payton would be the first to address it. In the past he has never been shy about discussing his current and former players weight when they were getting chunky.

Also, I've seen Davenport make plays in this preseason. In the Jets game, I did see him miss a tackle in the back field. But he was disruptive which allow other players to come in an finish off the play. And if Davenport was being double-teamed in a game without Cam Jordan playing the other side then that's extremely positive, especially from a 2nd year player.

They have to say that Taysom is probably not Drew’s replacement. They will draft a QB and trade for one, to compete with Taysom but I Think they realize Taysom will be hard to beat.

Seriously. Especially for a guy that tall. 15 lbs. could probably be dropped in a couple weeks. If that's the weight he showed up to camp at, I'm willing to bet it's already gone.

Hell, I’m 6’3” n 260. N let’s just say I’m old....BUT I look good! ?

In this NOLA heat, I can easily lose 5 lbs with a good 3-4 mile jog. So MD definitely lost that 15 lbs a loong time ago!

I still wanna see him get off the ball faster n develop/show some new/different moves to compliment his bull rush!

Everyone knew we were targeting a DE. It was reported over and over again. Davenport was the logical choice. Not hard to guess. These “Coach Pete “ threads are laughable.

Agree with everything you said except that Pete didn't have 1st hand knowledge of Davenport. He worked him out multiple times. And was consulted by the coaches on multiple occasions. He wants Davenport to be a star and that's what concerns me when he goes negative on him.
