Coach Pete Update: Not Good on Davenport. Some on Hill and Bridgewater, Some Saints Good News also (1 Viewer)

Get real. It was a massive surprise to the board. Just back a d look at the thread.

No it wasn’t. We were targeting a pass rusher. There was speculation for days that we were talking to teams to move up. After Chubbs, Davenport was the only first round talent. What stunned people was what they gave up for a prospect and not the actual climb. Not to mention the talking heads in tv that were enamored with Lamar Jackson. But it was common knowledge we wanted pass rush.

Agree with everything you said except that Pete didn't have 1st hand knowledge of Davenport. He worked him out multiple times. And was consulted by the coaches on multiple occasions. He wants Davenport to be a star and that's what concerns me when he goes negative on him.
So Pete worked out Davenport ? What like conditioning (which is not football related at all). Are you implying he worked him out for the Saints. Like in a 3rd party consultation role?

Agree 100%. Coach Pete shared some info about Davenport which I found very interesting. This is from his coaches. Davenport
4) And yet he is very shy. Because of his shyness, he didn't participate or stay in contact with many other Saints players and coaches during the offseason. This is a major reason he got so out of shape along with some immaturity of a 21 year old kid
Shyness is just a part of the issue. The other is more of a mechanical issue -It’s hard to talk to team mates or anyone when your mouth is constantly full of food.

And 15 lbs is nothing for a guy his size. Literally a weeks worth of diet and exercise.
I weighed 198 and lost 15 lbs in a month. It’s not that hard

Nice to be able to sit back a year after and make statements. There was not a single thread about Saints drafting Davenport before the Coach Pete call. If it was so apparent, especially on SR, there would have been a dozen threads on picking a UTSA new program DE.

The world of reality is different from the world of fantasy. Wake Up and Edit: be a little more freindly! There are a lot of really decent people on SR.

I love it. Everyone who claims to know an insider on the Saints gets treated like their info is gold (remember the trunkman debacle?) but when Swimmer claims -and has proven to know - a trainer in TX who works out potential NFL (and multiple other sport athletes) he gets bashed for just reporting back what he hears from the guy who told it to him.

Seriously, get over yourselves. He's sharing info he's heard from someone who worked with Davenport and just take it for what it's worth. Second hand info from a trainer who used to work with Davenport before he got to the NFL but is still in touch with him.

My thoughts -

On Davenport....reporting to camp out of shape would explain why he was still playing when they pulled the rest of the starters. The coaching staff were trying to play him into shape. It would also explain his lack of burst and his looking slower than last year.

On Brees....sorry but I have my doubts. If Brees were confiding in people (even people he trusts) he was retiring after this season it would get out. Someone prominent in the sportsmedia would put it out. It’s too big to keep it quiet. Something that big would be out tomorrow in ESPN’s crawl - “Brees to retire after 2019 season” verified or not. I’m sure Brees has a plan but I think it involves another Super Bowl appearance.

I don't know who these lots of conditioning coaches are, but weight alone is no determination of performance. He could've shown up weighting the same 265 lbs he weighted after last season - or even less - and be out of football playing shape.

And a again, at 6'6" 265 lbs playing weight, 15 lbs isn't that big of a deal. He could shed that in a couple of weeks of training camp.

The report from Coach Pete is that he added 15 lbs of fat. That is never a good thing for a professional athlete. The word is that he gained that weight because he did not stick to his offseason conditioning program. I'm not sure what your expertise is, training today is not what it was 30 years ago. Playing football is year-round. There is no offseason for training. You're either getting better or you're getting worse. I'm sure the coaching staff is thrilled that their multi-million-dollar two first-round picks investment got worse when he should have been getting better. But hey, if it's not a big deal, you should ask the coaches why they even set offseason training regimens for the players. Hey, go ahead and gain 15 lbs of fat everybody. We'll spend the first six games of the season getting back in shape.

So immature young ppl who become rich automatically turn mature? No sir it actually doesn't work like that. In a perfect world maybe. In reality, there's literally millions of examples that becoming an adult by age alone is largely just a lable. No matter how much $ they have

Somewhere in the world there's a 30 something yr old guy who's unemployed, living in his parent's basement n smoking a fat blunt

Meanwhile, there's a teenage kid somewhere that's about to commit a haneous crime n will be tried as an "adult"

Where did I ever say that money makes people mature? You're debating an argument against someone else, not me. I said that they should be EXPECTED to behave maturely. I guarantee that Sean Payton is not running a day care. He's expecting these young men to act like young men. He says so all the time. He has tests for character, responsibility, team loyalty, in other words maturity. So, on this one, the test didn't work, or he ignored the test results. Either way, he's not happy, I'm sure. And, I don't think he's excusing Davenport's behavior with the same low expectations as some on this site have.

Not sure who's having a debate with you about 30-year-olds who live in their basement and were not drafted by the Saints and given millions of dollars. It's certainly not me.

It is not a "report". The "report"and "the word" are hearsay. What we would need to know is Davenport's BMI after the season and when training camp started to be able to ascertain whether he actually gained 15 lbs of fat; or he just gained a combination of 15 pounds of muscle and fat.

And I don't care if it is 30 years ago, or 50, or 100. At 6'6", and 265 lbs, with the muscle mass Davenport is carrying, even if he gained 15 lbs of fat, 2 weeks of no carbs in TC, they're gone.

Doesn't matter that there weren't any threads on this site. There were several news articles about the Saints showing a lot of interest in Davenport at the Senior Bowl. A few posters here said they had inside information that confirmed the Saints really liked Davenport. So it was no secret that the Saints liked Davenport.

There were several articles that mentioned the Saints were looking to trade up to get one of the top DE's. The speculation among sports writers was that they would try to trade up far enough to get Chubb and if they couldn't get high enough to get Chubb, then they'd trade up for one of the other DE's they'd like. Several mock drafts and analysts had Davenport as the second best DE behind Chubb.

While there was no other post on this site predicting that the Saints would trade up and draft Davenport, it shouldn't have been a complete surprise to anyone paying attention to everything that was being said and reported outside of this site.

Davenport knew how much the Saints were interested in him, so his college coaching staff knew how much the Saints were interested. Personal trainer Pete knew some of Davenport's college coaching staff which would explain why he knew the Saints were interested in Davenport. The Saints had Chubb rated higher, something that the Davenport camp wouldn't have known which probably explains why personal trainer Pete didn't tell Swimmer that. The Saints weren't willing to pay the price to trade up high enough for Chubb, so they targeted Davenport as the draft drew near.

Personal trainer Pete knew the right people outside of the Saints organization at the right time which is why he was aware that the Saints were trying to trade up for Davenport. Personal trainer Pete's "inside source" was with Davenport's college coaches, not the Saints. The longer Davenport is in the league, the less of a connection he will have with his college coaches. Personal trainer Pete's 15 minutes of "inside sources" is up.

Everything since drafting Davenport that personal trainer Pete has allegedly passed on from sources inside the Saints has been vague, generic, and a repeat of speculation already shared on this site or in sports news. Most of his alleged "inside information" since drafting Davenport hasn't turned out true.

For instance, personal trainer Pete allegedly said that his "inside sources" with the Saints told him McCoy was drafted to be a "strong side" guard and that he wasn't suited to be an NFL center. How's that looking right about now?

The world of reality is different from the world of fantasy.
It absolutely is.

Everyone has their opinions. I am too excited about the 2019 Saints and the opening season to give any more negative energy to other fellow Who Dats over a thread now. I am thrilled about this team. Coach Pete was ranked as the 2nd most favorite source of all analysts on SR in a poll last year, which he really isn't. This thread got over 30 positives to 6 negatives. As long as the great majority of my Who Dat brothers and sisters enjoy Coach Pete, I will continue to feed them his info. I hope you can enjoy this season as much as I do. To me, that's what being a Saint Fan is all about. Our egos, and I speak of mine here also, are such a burden to enjoying life and each other.

Who Dat Brother! Let's all enjoy this amazing team together.

Swimmer I got a “Coach Pete” tattoo after he correctly predicted the Davenport pick
