Comic Book Talk (1 Viewer)

Just found out that And Books, Too (the comic shop in Lafayette) will be closing in the next couple of months. The owners are retiring. I'm bummed because I've been visiting that shop since I was a teenager. The kids and I are definitely going to have to make a trip there one last time.
That sucks. I try to get my stuff from the shop in my town because I want him to stick around. His store is growing, which is a good sign, but I doubt that it's a high profit business. I think that the Magic, and DnD people keep those shops open.

They do. The money is in Magic, YuGiOh, D&D Adventurer's League, etc. It's what keeps shops open. Very few comics only shops around anymore, while lots of game only shops are doing ok.

Hasbro is trying their best to kill off Magic with the constant releases and then the proxy Magic 30th that just released and tanked.

Is that the one that was over a thousand a box or some such ridiculousness?

I play Magic. Until the player base stops buying the product Hasbro will have no incentive to stop. The 30th anniversary nonsense aside, people are still buying. They're griping but buying.

The prices aren't holding up though. They had like over 20 releases this year alone. The market is saturated with product that's not moving the way it should. Hasbro's stock has taken a hit this year as well because of it.

But I only play commander so I very rarely by new product. Mostly just singles on the secondary market. I was interested in that Necron 40k commander precon but wasn't going to pay that stupid price.

I've never played commander but I did keep some cards to maybe switch to that format.

What colors you like? I'm partial to the Esper decks, white, black and blue.

I've got three different Mardu decks at the moment. One is a vampire tribal that is kind of jack of all trades (life gain, tokens, graveyard stuff). Another is a demons, angels, and dragons deck that allows me to ignore mana curve for creatures due to Kaalia of the Vast as my commander. So it's all about big heavy hitting creatures fast and early. Get a bunch of beat sticks out there fast.

I'm currently working on a four color artifact deck and a Temur ETB trigger deck that focuses on dragons. That one is shaping up to be very fun.

Y'all thread-jacking the sheet out of this thread, which I guess proves a point...
:biglol:
I don't want to thread jack further but I had one more comment I wanted to say. I've been playing Magic since around 95(not the whole time but I started then) so about a couple of years after it came out. Right now, I haven't played in a few years but recently I started watching some videos on youtube talking about various cards and such and I learned that I may know the basics on how to play but I really don't know sheet on how to really play the game. I just bought cards I liked and threw them together. If I played against real professionals I'd get destroyed easily. I guess that's it. Oh, fork them for Magic 30th! 1,000 bucks for proxies, you can kiss my arse.
