Comic Book Talk

I think with the apparent continued decline in popularity of the MCU, a lot of those crazy price spikes that would hit first appearances or other key issues for characters debuting in movies are going to level off in the next couple of years.
He has several old "Marvel Premiere" issues, which were basically Marvel throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what might stick. And most are ridiculous. Like "Blinks Really Fast Man" and the "Mighty Color Coordinator". But all it takes is a well-written movie with Glen Powell and Ariana Grande that captures the zeitgeist, and all of a sudden I'm pawing through those trying to slab the first appearance of Blinks Really Fast Man.

Yep. I always wonder how an app like Key Comic Collector keeps things going with its speculation tactics, but there are some people who will just jump at anything they throw out. I expect a lot of stuff to level off, which, for long time collectors like me, is a wonderful thing.

Those types of issues I was picking up for specific characters who I just pick up because they were in there. But I don't ever think Marvel premiere actually debuted anyone that I can remember.

Yeah, not that I'm actively rooting against the MCU or anything but price stabilization isn't something I'm going to complain about.

Captain America #117 is an example of this. I thought that it was nuts when I paid $117.

Nothing new. They usually announce new creative teams around this time with more to come just in time for SDCC. DC is doing the same with a new Batman writer (Matt Fraction).

I was not happy with Zdarsky's run on Batman, so I'll probably pass this up.

Milestone Comics has been a vital part of my childhood long before Static Shock hit the TV screen. So happy to have sat with someone who got his start there as an intern and sees Dwayne McDuffie as a mentor...

That's cool.

I won't say McDuffie is "unsung" per se, because he has a well established record of high quality work in both comics and animation, but i do think we need to talk about him more because of how good that work was. He was an insanely talenred dude who was taken from us way too soon.

No doubt. I'm happy his estate and DC were able to come to terms that allowed Milestone to come back when it did. He contributed so much to the industry and DC almost lost him before they brought him back to write on the animation side.

One thing I found interesting from the interview (the video is live on YouTube), is that Christopher Priest (who definitely has a history of his own) was actually more involved in Milestone's formation, but didn't want the credit.

For any Green Lantern fans out there...

Picked these up at Louisiana Comic Con yesterday (more on that in the comic con thread). Nothing too crazy. Some are to fill in runs (X-Men and Star Trek stuff) and the rest are because I like the covers, especially the Man of Steel and Wolverine ones. Got everything for $50, so I was happy.

Nice haul. Those covers look great. Love the artwork, especially the Star Trek ones.

So I guess Liefeld is feeling justified. I wonder what happened...
