DeWine laid out our reopening plan today and once again I feel like he's handling it extremely well.

"What we did today is a risk," DeWine said. "Doing nothing is a risk. With a decision like this, there is no easy decision - we have to balance. We will be criticized by those who think we shouldn't open up. We'll be criticized by those who think we didn't open up enough. I understand both arguments, but I think we found the sweet spot."
Once again, DeWine is doing the sensible thing. If there is too much more delay, regular medical systems are going to jam up. I have postponed my next Dr. appointment twice now, am running low on contact lenses, and need a teeth cleaning. That cartoon showing an endless line to get a haircut is not going to be such a joke. 😎

So tragic! We/I keep thinking about going back to our regular lives and it’s so easy to forget about the people who are risking their lives every single day.

and cannot fathom what they have had to see/deal with ( unless in combat operations at some point in career )
Death, and lots of it, can completely destroy ones own psyche.

so very sad.

some of these professionals will require much in the way of help ( emotionally/mentally ) as things begin to taper.

Well, Louisiana is extending the Stay at Home Order until May 15. The governor says we have not met the Phase One gate because of lack of testing capacity and the fact that several regions in the state still have rising numbers of cases (Monroe area-Northeast Lousiana) and others have only reached a plateau with no decreases (North Shore of New Orleans).

Interestingly, those are more rural areas than other parts of the state unlike New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

One of the nation's top meat companies has issued a warning that there could be a shortage at grocery stores nationwide due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a full page ad that appeared in Sunday's edition of The New York Times, the chairman of the board of Tyson Foods, John H. Tyson, wrote that "the food supply chain is breaking."

The company's ominous message came after it temporarily closed a pork processing plant in Waterloo, Iowa, on April 22. More than 180 coronavirus infections had been linked to the plant, and hundreds of employees weren't going to work out of fear of getting sick, NBC News reported. The plant accounted for almost 4% of U.S. pork processing capacity, according to the National Pork Board.

There will be limited supply of our products available in grocery stores until we are able to reopen our facilities that are currently closed," Tyson wrote in the ad.

On Monday, a worker from the Iowa Tyson plant (whose identity was concealed) spoke with NBC's Kerry Sanders on TODAY about the conditions that led to the shutdown.

"Ambulances start coming to our plant. People start being carried out of there, and so we were always asking our supervisors basically what is it that's going on here," the employee said. "They didn't have enough material, masks and things like that, to provide to us, so they would start giving us different types of rags and stuff that they had ... washed and cleaned.".................

So, Tyson didn't have any PPE to give their workers, made them come in, bring their own masks, and hope for the best? And they wonder why they had an outbreak?

We haven't had a single case in here.

Huh. I would've bet that he loosened things up more on May 1. Shows what I know.

I still think from a purely NOLA perspective, the May 15 date is not going to hold very well if we stay on the same path of reduced cases/death. If we get 4 or 5 days no new cases and nobody dying, the lid is going to come off.

Oh wow. Well, nevermind on what I said about Texas going at a good pace.

This is about two weeks premature, IMO.

This article has more relevant info than the WaPo. I don't have a problem with it especially since he's giving individual counties/cities permission to have different plans.

I agree. I just try to get whatever I can delivered through Amazon or whoever to avoid going into stores. but I get that that isn't really possible with plants, trees, etc.
It probably depends on where you are. Last week I had a bush from my hedge die. I called my local nursery and told them what I wanted. Two hours later a 5' arborvitae was in my driveway.

I don’t want to seem judgmental, but curious to
See if there is a correlation between liberals and conservatives regarding wearing masks? More rural areas tend to lean Republican and might feel like this virus is not that big of a deal. And that our country should be reopened by now. Again, not trying to be rude, but wonder if there is any correlation.
Oh HELL no!!!!!!

Either you love & care for yourself, your family, your loved ones, your friends.......or you don’t.

That's like saying most Democrats are from cities and are generally more rude and self centered so might not wear them because of that...but I'm not judging.

I thought he was going to loosen up more on May 1 too so you aren't the only one that was wrong. But, I do think you are right that we will see people breaking the rules if things continue to go well. The problem is that if Latoya sees that, she is going to bring the NOPD hammer down. Although, after the Governor spoke, Latoya said that she could lift the order at any time. I don't think she understands the relationship between State and local governments.

But, I'm not sure how much good it is going to do the New Orleans economy to open up more at this point. It's not like we are going to get any tourist money even if we are open (especially if the bars are closed) and the oil industry is totally screwed right now. So, only locals are really going to be the ones shopping and spending money, but they don't have any money because of the issues with the oil industry and with not having any tourist dollars coming in. It's a really bad situation for us even if we open up for business.
