I'm not saying I advocate what these doctors are saying. I'm just putting it out here because I do think it needs to be part of the debate.

Pro: These are medical professionals who are dealing with the virus up front and in person, so their opinions have some validity

Con: They are in a small town, and the reality concerning the subject of the danger of spreading the virus in small towns is very different to the reality of the danger in large cities.

The Dr. Erickson video has been removed by youtube. Copies are being posted and taken down relatively quickly.

Covington is just as bad as your area. It's nuts how few mask up. Shoot I saw several ladies at store with gloves but no mask and others wearing mask UNDER nose.
Why even wear??

It's interesting how different it is where I go in South Florida. I've been to two different Targets (just came back from one today), one gas station multiple times, outside costco for gas, work, and my grocery store.

Now, we have a mask order, as far as I know, so I see almost everyone in a mask of some sort. Costco gas was the exception, but everyone is outside a good distance away. Even there, a few were wearing them still. I saw a mom with two girls, the youngest was around 10-12. Both girls were wearing masks. And I'll point out that they were black, only because I know there has been some chatter about this maybe being more of a suburban thing, or white helicopter moms, but no, almost everyone is wearing them.

the only thing I do notice is that far too many people have the knock off N95 masks for China (might be legit, but you know), and a lot of them don't fit right. I'm not talking the ticky tack fit issues an instructor would have, like not being clean shaven, or a bit off. I mean people with their noses out, or ones where they are actually too big for their face, so under their mouth isn't sealed. I can see too much of their chin. This is where I feel like surgical masks or cloth DIY masks are superior. They're not as good of a filter, but they usually fit better. Good thing we're not in such a highly concentrated environment like a doctor or nurse.

So, I'm encouraged about our locale, but it really does reinforce the importance of consistent and clear messaging to reach folks. I also joined a Florida Unemployment Facebook group (may not stick around), just to get a boots on the ground look at who's having issues, who's finding success. Man, a bunch of folks are ignorant on there. Not in the bad way, but wow. An Average IQ feels so low...so, so, low...

But, folks are mostly wearing masks, keeping away, and hopefully washing their hands more.

Its such a fascinating thing to watch. People are upset over the stay-at-home orders but will go out without masks on and contribute to the problem. The populace controls when those orders are lifted. If we do our part, the number of cases drop to the point some people can open their businesses. The past few days out in metairie has been so unacceptable that I actually tweeted Cynthia Lee about how unacceptable people are acting by not social distancing and not masking up. The governor has spent the last week recommending people to cover up when in public.

This is why these orders will linger on if people dont adapt.

You will have to deal with the checkpoint on quarantine if you travel by I-10. Of course you can take hwy 90E of the Foley Beach Express and avoid it easily.

Im not overly concerned about that. Pensacola beaches are opening May 1, and we will be where we are staying if anybody checks, so NBD.

I was talking to my wife. This thing is going to get really ugly really quick in some places. Unlike before where there were a few isolated carriers which meant a relatively slow ramp up you now have enough positive people in every community in the us so that when states are liberated, that well seeded Covid-19 is going to frigging blow up quick. I’d hate to be a medical worker in a month or so.

No doubt at some point we are all having to take actions to protect ourselves and we can't always expect others to care.

But, I do wonder how much culture really plays a role in how cautious people are with this? I know you live Uptown (or The Channel) and so does Nolaswede and, based on what both of you have said, it sounds like people in that area are being very, if not overly cautious, but I'm not seeing the same thing in the Lakeview area and in Jefferson Parish along Vets. People seem much less cautious about this. I'm not sure why that is and it could just be anecdotal, but I find it interesting.

Went to Breauxmart today, and at least 75% were wearing some sort of mask. I think people will still wear a mask when going to a grocery store etc, even during the summer. Which will hopefully make it tougher for it to spread as quickly as before.

As it usually goes with these things those that want to agree with them will and will assign nefarious motives to YouTube removing the video. That’s the way it goes and why it’s better to just leave the content alone. You aren’t stopping anything, you’re just making them martyrs.

Oh no doubt. I wouldn't have taken it down either. But...there could be some legal rumblings behind the scenes that got it shut down. So, I dunno.

As for the Blaze. Nope, not reading that. Don't really care what they think.
