it's both sad and comical at the same time.

Tragicomic? Bittersweet?

I bet there's a German word for that exact thing.

And at one fifteenth of the population and I would surmise 1/40th the land mass. Are you really comparing the complexities of containing a virus between the U.S. and New Zealand.

You people are so in the tank of bashing this country at every turn it's both sad and comical at the same time.

Not the country. The people who can't manage to handle a few weeks of quarantine/social distancing without throwing tantrums like sleepy toddlers.

Don't really know what this means, or the significance of it. Maybe someone can explain?

Sensitivity = true positive rate. True positives (TP) / all positives (P) . If you are infected, how likely is that the test returns a positive.
Specificity = true negative rate, which is true negatives (TN) / all negatives (N). If you aren't infected , how likely is it hat the test returns a negative

Basically the antibody test that we will need to realistically start to move forward is there and it’s 99.9% accurate. Unlike the ones they have been using with are as good as my free throw percentage. (5’8” with depth perception problems)

Accuracy is actually (TP + TN) / (T + N). In this case, somwhere between 99.9% and 100%, but too lazy to actually do the math. Accuracy isn't used much, as one number cannot capture how "good" a test is at doing both ruling out false positives and false negatives. Accuracy is actually defined as true positives + true negatives / A test can be highly specific but not highly sensitive, or highly sensitive but not highly specific, but still have high accuracy.

Yep, from time to time the vibration around those inspection/access covers will cause the pin in the hinges to wear down and break the end where it is secured in the hinge. Before long the pin vibrates out and the cover is free as a bird. By the time the wear is that bad, usually it's time to drill out the attaching rivets and replace the hinge to fix it properly. Some mechanic has a nice little fabrication project to day replacing that access cover.
Yes I know...I’m a retired Aircraft Stuctural Maintenance Craftsman (Sheetmetal). When I worked the BUFF at Carswell AFB we were called Airframe Repair Specialists. Replacing hinges and fabrication of panels was common. Thankfully, goose strikes were a bit less common.

I hope that they're right.

I believe they are correct. While there are smaller naturally occurring mutations, there have been no major structural changes that would mean a reinfection that I’m aware of. Now, while it’s uncertain how long the immunity lasts, the body generally does do a pretty good job of viral memory.

Want to pretend the US is handling this well? Want to ignore the number of cases? How about the number of deaths? Should we compare with other countries like Hong Kong and Iran that had protests going into the virus but were responsible enough to stop the protests in the best interest of the country until after the virus? Not here, we bring our guns to the state capital and try to demand the economy reopening by force, intimidation and fear despite more than 70% of the country wanting to remain closed to get rid of the virus. If that happened in the Middle East we would have hit them with drone strikes and called it terrorism.

Every single thing that we were predicting in this thread months ago came to fruition. Like I said months ago, our solution will be spraying it with money since we can't bomb it and using Science and math is out of the question. It was common sense and basic math. If we can't ever be disappointed with ouselves and admit when we make mistakes we can't ever fix them. So yeah, I'm embarrassed right now and expect more. I can't imagine accepting the USA is the worst in the world and being ok with it, to accept that is to give up on your country.

Now, do I have a solution? Nope. Can't keep the economy shut down forever. It's like asking me how to not wreck the train after the fact. What I can say is the least people can do is quit crying about wearing mask and at least be responsible but even that seems to be too much to ask.

Same job as my dad, back when Fairchild was a SAC base.

Yup, if true, this is the best news yet. This also means odds a vaccine will work becomes a lot better. Probably doesn't have a huge impact between now and a vaccine but it does mean this wont be a yearly recurring virus like some have feared.

Some people are just ignorant. I just had to reply to someone on Nextdoor because they were putting out outdated information. Basically they replied to a thread someone made about pet stores being open and nobody wearing masks. The guy said” the CDC doesn’t recommend wearing a mask anyways unless you have symptoms and at the point you should be home anyways”. He also mentioned how it wasn’t mandatory. I double checked and his comment was as of today. Sad thing is people liked his post.

I had to reply that the CDC actually recommends wearing at least a cloth mask and it’s not to protect the person wearing that mask but more for other people. I swear the laziness of some people just baffles me. How hard is it to wear a mask?

I wonder if the 4 midwestern states that are topping the list for growth are doing so because of meat processing plants?

Here in Indiana our numbers are as high as they are because of one Purdue plant, Marion county (Indianapolis), and Lake County (South side of Chicago). The rest of the state is doing relatively well. I would expect those states to be more like the majority of Indiana than a Northeastern state.
