The information is there...people are just ignoring it or they dont give a damn about anybody but themselves

I think it depends somewhat on sources and the friends you trust. When your sources are Facebook and questionable Twitter pages and/or reddit, then you get people saying this is a hoax, it's the flu, more people die from whatever and such and completely ignore warning signs.

I mean, what's staggering to me is I saw a poll that showed 60% approving how he's handling the CV19 issue. Makes my head hurt seeing that.

Like i have said before, I am far more concerned with how Congress is handling it. I have pretty much tuned Trump out at this point

The sad part isnt that Trump is really wrong...its just idealistic crap. What is getting in the way of this being over this quickly is "us".

As bad as our leaders have been, "we" are what is making this worse by not doing what this thread has been saying to do from the beginning
But when certain "leaders" and media have been alternatively downplaying the situation, then taking it "seriously," and now saying that while it's serious, it's not serious enough to vigorously practice social distancing, is it really any surprise when "we" aren't all on the same page on what we need to do? "We" are getting inconsistent and mixed messages from leadership, so I'm not sure why you would put more blame on "us" while absolving our "leaders" who, after all, are supposed to, you know, LEAD.

It's deeply disappointing, to say the least. This country can't tell real leadership from reality TV BS anymore, and we're going to get what we deserve.

Yeah I pretty much stopped listening to the government's advice back when W was in office

Oh I'm right with you there. We'll see. Just switched to C-SPAN2 to see where they're at. If they don't get it done tonight...tomorrow is gonna be a mess.

I think state and local governments need to step up. Think local act local. It doesn't make any sense to manage something like this in a monolithic national level.
New York City and Salina Kansas probably have different actions needed. De-centralization.

That's fine, but you do realize that most of the populace, in a situation like this, are going to look to their elected officials for some guidance on what they should do, right?

First time this has ever been said on SR?

Judges - can I get a ruling?

I turned this channel on back on Sunday night; it was awful. It looked like I was watching an old VCR tape from the 80's, and they had the most bizarre, random guy in a cheap suit taking calls from weirdo callers asking the strangest questions about the virus. I couldn't handle it for more than five minutes. Never again.

Some aspects of it yes - state and local have been managing the distancing measures. CDC provides guidance (some state and local rely on it, others don’t) but that kind of regulation isn’t a federal matter and it hasn’t been treated that way.

But the response supply line is something different. There are massive shortages - and in this national crisis it makes sense to have a centralized control of production and distribution. If we’re using wartime powers here (and we are) then treat it that way. If anything, avoid this:

So, because the DC area Metro rail only has 2-3 weeks worth of cleaning supplies, they're closing 19 stations until further notice. Ridership is down 90%. Crazy.

If we do nothing, New York's problems are eventually going to be Kansas' problems - only a matter of time. And with states competing for resources, Kansas could be hoarding supplies NY needs now, or Kansas could end up having no supplies when they need it. And neither New York's nor Kansas' governors can stop or mitigate the spread within the U.S. generally. Put simply, the Libertarian handbook doesn't have a good answer for a pandemic. So I disagree with your belief that this is merely a state or local problem. The Federal government has a role in testing/surveillance, ramping up production of needed medical supplies, and directing those resources as needed. Because all of that is needed to get us through this.
