Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (1 Viewer)

Which is a savings of 36 per month during the season and 56 in the offseason.

36 x 4 mo. + 56 x 8 mo. = 592 dollars saved. Thats almost %33 of what your paying now. Thats significant savings IMO and thats going all out with all the major streaming services. You probably don't need Netflix and Hulu (lot of the same content) and prime is more than just streaming service and has tons of convenient features.

No commercials, watch whatever you want, and even if a show or movie is unavailable to stream for free you can rent/buy it on prime (and spend some of that money you saved to own the content) and still not come nearly close to what you were spending. Prime movies are all at minimum 1 dollar cheaper to rent than ondemand. Plus you will have 100 times more content available.

Not even close to what your paying for cable, 56 off a 140 dollar bill is a lot of money!

You're twisting my arm now SQ. I'm so afraid to pull the trigger. I'm gonna talk to my wife about it this weekend.

CRAP! I forgot I will need to get a Roku for the bedroom. But that is just a one time payment for the device, correct?

Honestly, Netflix and Prime are what I use, you already have the internet. Both services offer a free month. I don't know if you have a smart TV ready to go, but if you have the capability give it a shot, SlingTV has 7 days free. Try it out, It will cost you nothing and your still set up with cable. No lose situation.

Roku 3 are 99.99 and yes, a one time buy. I use Amazon fire sticks for the bedrooms 39.00. Roku streaming stick is 49 Either device will make any t.v. with an HDMI a smart tv both are one time buys.

Scroll down to the comparison chart IMO fire tv stick is best bang for the buck.

I don't have a smart t.v.

Hopefully Santa brings me one for Christmas.

What's the point of cutting the cable then? By the time you pay for your internet service, Sling, Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus and Netflix, you're right around $110 again. Don't forget HBO Now and other single channel options.

My total bill is $139 per month, and that is a bundle of Cable, Internet and Phone through Charter. I can get DirecTV with the channels I need for $19.99 a month for 12 months. Add that to my current internet cost of $$60 and I'm sitting at $80 a month and saving $60.

Cord-Cutting Guide: 5 Ways to Watch Everything You Want Without a Cable Bill

You could buy about 13 additional show seasons before cable becomes more cost effective.

The Plan: HBO Now, Netflix, Hulu, CBS All Access, and Amazon Prime Video

Just a few ways to plan savings.

The biggest downside to me is that the Fire stick has to be wireless, and you can hardwire a Roku.
I'm reasonably sure that the Fire TV can be hardwired. The quad core processor and interface gives it the advantage, IMO. That it runs on Android just makes me wonder why anyone still buys the Roku.

Plus amazon prime has music as well, plus pandora and spotify are free, you can use your phone and if you have Satellite radio, cancel it.

I am cord cutting this week. Been contemplating it every august for the last 3 years and I finally reached the point of no return with ATT and while shopping my other alternative Time Warner they are even worse. I am going to start with just OTA until I figure out what will work best for hardware and streaming.

It looks like I will have to switch over to TWC for internet service though because ATT wants to hold internet over me for leverage and trying to bill be $68/mo for 18mbps as single service. In the end we will save about $1,200 a year.

The future is not looking bright for us as far cable and internet pricing/service. A big stink needs to be made to break up the cable/ISP providers ownership of our access to service much the same way electric utilities were broken up.

It is clear that since all cable companies are now also ISP providers they are just going to increase internet service prices as they destroy their cable service with high prices and ridiculous packages geared to force you to buy more of what you don't want... to get what you want.

I find myself using Plex less and less after installing Kodi and the Genesis app on my Fire Stick.

Out of curosity, how did you install Kodi on the fire stick? Could you provide the tutorial you used?

Thank you

Ditto to that. It won't let me install any of those. It acts like it needs to be hard connected to a computer to find a file on the hard drive, rather than wirelessly through a web address.
