Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (3 Viewers)

Question about "cut the cable"..

If I wanted to watch LSU vs. Miss St would the Watch ESPN app work for that game (on ESPN) assuming I have a friends Cox user name and password?

I would like to hear from someone that uses Watch ESPN currently? Does it work well? is there constant buffering?

Thanks.

Yes it will work. Doesn't buffer to bad, especially if you are on wifi. If you have a Chromecast you could see it on your big screen tv.

I have COX basic which does not include ESPN and I'm still able to get the spider cam off the ESPN broadcasts though ESPN 3 on Apple TV . Not that bad . Kind of like watching a video game.

I partially severed the cord 6 years ago and went with a Roku 2nd generation I think it was. At the time I was willing to pay $12/month to TWC for the broadcast channels over cable. Later I discovered that with the internet package I get those anyway so officially I only pay for internet. I flirted with Amazon and Hulu but only briefly. Thru my Roku (hooked up to my smart tv btw due to crappy apps on the smart tv) Netflix, MLB, PBS, Smithsonian and History channel serve up most of our content).

My biggest concern is the continued birthing of super high definition content that eats up bandwidth. I had my brief fling chasing HD as an early adopter but have no interest at all in ultra or 4K and certainly whatever is coming next. I think it is a threat to cord cutting in cost cutting terms. We will all pay for it with increased internet access I think which starts to eat into the cost savings of cord cutting.

This is true.

Sling works fine for your basic cable channels. With ESPN and AMC it is worth the 20 a month just for those two channels.

I am making a final decision on which device to get and would appreciate any advice in making it. So my choices are:

Amazon Fire TV vs Roku 3 vs Fire Stick vs Roku Stick

Thoughts?

You can't go wrong. I would probably go with the Fire TV, I have the stick and it's great, the TV would be better. If you are going Roku, might as well go Roku 3.

Thanks. Right now, I'm leaning the Roku 3 with the Sling TV deal, but not committed yet.

The nice thing about Roku3 is the headphone jack on the remote. The bad thing about a Roku is no Kodi.

I did the sling tv roku 3 deal a few months ago. It just takes some getting used to but I like the money I'm saving per month. I was spending $235/month on cable/internet. Thats down to around $105/month with sling TV/hbo/netflix/hulu/amazon prime and internet.

I added HBO a month after a had sling tv and they sent me another Roku 3 at no charge. Right now though I have a Roku 3 on main tv and roku stick in bedoroom.

Not sure if you know this (I didn't) but you can only stream sling tv on one device at a time.

I just wish I did all this sooner.

I've heard about Kodi. I know it comes on the Fire Stick. What about Fire TV?

Any good reading on Kodi?
