Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (1 Viewer)

Well so far Sling not that bad. ESPN has its skips but I do find it works much better when you put your sling info on the Watch ESPN app. Also likes how Roku lets you build your own channels and has a couple of free movie apps. So far so good.

I ran in to the skips when I was using Sling but I think it may have been due to my modem/router which I have upgraded. I am thinking of re-activating the service to watch the new season of the Walking Dead starting next week. Plus it'd be cool to catch some MNF.

I will also mention I have been using the Roku to stream Sunday Ticket and it has been streaming in good quality.

I am glad that I am not the only one having problems with skipping, lagging, and pausing with ESPN (on Sling). I watch ESPN on my work computer, but it always has those problems, and it gets frustrating. I imagine that they will correct this problem as time goes on, but it is annoying.

I have the stick, and not Roku. Is Roku necessary at all, or should I go and get that? How much is it monthly btw?

I thought I read somewhere that WatchESPN was available without subscription for Prime members with the Fire TV stick. Anyone taking advantage of that?

No monthly fees unless you subscribe to a pay channel. I got my Roku stick free with my 3 month subscription to Sling TV.

It's just always worked. I do use Cox as my ISP. But it has never asked for credentials.

Then you must be paying for expanded basic cable? When I used Apple TV all I would get were the ESPN updates and whatever was on ESPN 3.

No. I only have internet. I have tried the ESPN app on other devices and it wants credentials to work but not on the fire stick.

I saw on one of the news channels this morning that FOX is exploring starting their own TV APP similar to Sling that would include all the FOX channels and regional sports channels. Some cable companies also thinking about cordless TV.

I pay $20/ month for Sling. As long as Fox isn't outrageous, I would spend $10-$15 for their program. It would have to include FX, and the Fox Sports 1 and the other Sports channels, but I am game.

I don't know why more stations aren't doing this. They could make as much money (if not more than they are now), and they wouldn't be held back by Directv, Dish, etc.

Can the Fire Stick still be sideloaded with Kodi?

A friend of mine mentioned this thing called G Box Q. I looked it up and it seems almost too good to be true. Anyone have any info on this?
