Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (2 Viewers)

I've heard about Kodi. I know it comes on the Fire Stick. What about Fire TV?

Any good reading on Kodi?

Well, there's this: http://saintsreport.com/forums/f6/kodi-openelec-344557/#.Vf3pJZd6V_Q

Kodi can be hacked onto the fire stick, but it doesn't come on it. You can hack it onto the fire tv too.

I like the dedicated appliances for Kodi, but that adds another device.

You're a google guy - get it from the Play store and fool around with it. It will run on a phone or tablet, too.

Also, Amazon is about to drop new Fire TV devices. The box supports Alexa and 4k. The stick comes with the remote that has voice control. Alexa functionality will eventually be added. Those are some nice upgrades for no additional cost that no one else supports. If you don't care about those, then take advantage of the lowered price of the old models as they clear out stuff to make room.

Worth a mention now is that hulu has a new ad free option for a few dollars more. $11 a month, tons of television with no ads. A couple of networks force 1 ad before a show will start, but no interruptions after

What's on Hulu again?

I picked up the service for a month once and cancelled it. I don't think I ever watched it. Hulu used to be one of the standbys when I first cut the cord, but it's irrelevant now. The removal of ads for an extra $4 just adds insult to injury.

They did pick up the Epix deal that Netflix dropped, so that will be something when it goes live.

Just did a prelim read up on this and it sounds pretty damn good

A lot of stuff is on there now. They have made it a point to improve their library and have done so by signing deals with networks like Cartoon Network, FX, AMC and Showtime (it's offered at a lower price through Hulu).

I'm going to wait until actual user reviews start circulating before upgrading to the box from the stick. Even then, I'm toying with buying/building a small PC/NAS and running Kodi/Plex off that instead.

Maybe I'll give them another try...

I think I just want ESPN . Sling maybe the best option for me. Right now I'm just on the basic cr@p channels(First 22 channels) and internet on COX. Interesting COX can give me extra shopping networks at no cost but they won't give me ESPN unless I pay $40.00 extra a month. Now they trying to sell me their bundles $150 a month for a couple of channel packages for a couple of months then it jumps to like $240 per month. On that note here is how I feel about COX. Thankfully I do get ESPN 3 off of Apple TV.

Anyway Sling TV here I come!

Well I have had Sling for 3 days on Windows 8 and IOS and the issues I've had so far is that I can't play two devices at once. Another issue is that ESPN buffers a lot. Hopefully this all clears up when snail pace USPS delivers my Roku..

You still won't be able to watch two devices at once. That's a Sling limitation.

ESPN still starts jittering from time to time with Roku.

I was wondering if someone could clear something up for me. I cut the cord in February however, I'm still receiving cable. As others stated, many times you still receive the cable feed until someone comes out on a service call in the area to physically disconnect me from the box at the street. I've already purchased my antenna and tried it out to make sure it works, just haven't gone to it since I'm still receiving everything except the cable HD channels (still getting local affiliates in HD).

Here's the issue:
Cable One will begin a switch from analog to an all-digital lineup Oct. 3, which for many South Mississippians may mean buying a digital device to access the new lineup. Niemann said an all-digital device will be required by all customers unless they have a CableCard, a CableCard device, a Motorola receiver, TiVo or a DVR.

So does this mean my free cable will come to an end here shortly? And does this mean I will need this device for my antenna to work? I purchased the Clearstream 4 from Antennas Direct.

Yes, your free cable will likely end. It shouldn't change anything with your antenna.
