Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (1 Viewer)

The Mohu Sky (built on technology formerly used by only our military) shows that you be getting 40 channels.

I have the Sky and I like that you can run it into existing coax plant in your house so multiple tvs can run at once. However, I do not like the iphone style amplifier power adapter. It seems flimsy and I have had suspect connection issues with it.

So you can get Sunday Ticket without a Direct TV subscription?

Just ordered the Mohu Leaf 50. Hopefully this will give me some decent channels.

Yes. It's for people who live in a residence in which they cannot get DirecTV. I lived in an apartment at the time.

Oooooohhh... so do I. I'm going to have to look into that.

Pluto TV? Anyone have it? Came across it on Roku free streaming and going to give it a try. Buzd do you watch it?

Pluto TV: Entertaining the planet. 100+ TV Channels for the Internet!

I have a Roku 2 which is getting crotchety and uncooperative in its old age, so Pluto TV runs slowly for me, but it's still pretty cool. It essentially just aggregates streaming content, but it's officially licensed and it's really nice to have all that stuff available in one place.

They also have a Mystery Science Theater 3000 channel, which is awesome.

I have a Roku. I use it for NFL Sunday Ticket. As far as I can tell, that's the only advantage it has over the FireTV.

Am I wrong?

The Roku 4 offers more 4K content than the Fire, but aside from that and the Sunday Ticket thing I'm not sure there's any substantial benefits to going with the Roku over the Fire.

My Roku 2 is not long for the world (I have to restart it almost daily now so it won't freeze or give me error messages) and will probably be upgrading to something newer soon. I'm not a brand loyalist, so I'll go with whatever works best.

Yeah I downloaded it last night. Love MST 3000 channel. Nice variety of news channels and a Poker(WPT) channel. I see there is an open channel to create your own channel. I guess this is where Kodi comes in to play?

Have not heard of it or messed with it (note: for a number of reasons, I have also not cut the cord). I haven't had a Roku since gen 1.

If I had to guess, I would bet there is a Kodi add-on for it.

I turned in my final box to COX last month. I waited in a line of people doing the same thing. The Customer Service Rep actually asked me "How are you going to watch TV now?" as she put the box on top of other turned in boxes. I simply said over the air antenna and streaming and signed my slip that I turned in the equipment and left. Clearly the cable companies still don't get it.

Cord-cutting is still relatively unknown. The customer service rep probably dont know much about it, but trust me the cable companies are well aware.

This is why they're trying to move towards charging content providers money to allow their content to "pass through" unfettered and start charging customers more to access it. Expect areas with no competition to start capping data soon.

Many movie networks like HBO and Showtime are streaming without the cable go through at a cheaper cost too.

It's was supposed to prevent US from paying that. It's still being "tested" by everyone. I'm sure there is much legal wrangling to do still. Netflix has already ponied up I beleive.
