Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (1 Viewer)

Yeah. I typically use Hulu for all of my ABC and NBC content. Had access to the CW as well, but it seems that is now going by the waist side.

Right now, I mainly use view for cable stations like the USA Network

Sling has the USA Network now on the blue plan channels.

Espn3 does carry a lot of games (of course you need a cable provider - can you 'borrow' a friend's info?)
We have roku downstairs and chromecast upstairs if I had to pick one def chromecast - haven't looked at Amazon fire stick yet and I lf I rented/bought a lot of movies if probably go that way

NOW
speaking purely hypothetically - let's say OP is a big Walking Dead fan - if he didn't have cable, how could he get to watch his show?
Also realize OP might not be native to backdoor internet solutions
Walk him through the steps and make sure he doesn't get viruses and malware
Hypothetically

For science

All you need is the internet for espn3.

from another thread I just remembered. Seems like a fun DIY if you have the time.

first seen here in Wilts thread.

This is the same antenna I made and I get 20+ local channels.

Anyone else have trouble getting WYES over the air. I get all the other channels and sub channels with no hiccups. And actually I used to get PBS as well. But now I can get it at all. Weird.

So what are the options to watching the NFL without an antenna. I want HD picture btw. Not that crappy streaming you get on the FirstRow.

I've looked at NFL Go International with a VPN but I read they are cracking down and it this year and I don't want to waste $200 plus VPN costs.
Sports bar works for me. Years ago this was the last tether to paying for cable for me. Even with 10AM starts on Pacific time it was worth the sacrifice. Not the worst thing in the world to get out of the house in the morning either.

I did as well when I was in the city. No problems getting PBS where I am now. Someone posted in this thread that the reason there's trouble getting WYES is because if the band they broadcast on.

yep. I bought two different antennas specifically trying to get that broadcast. Still don't get it. I even played phone tag with a WYES technician who said on my voicemail that he would help me figure it out but I didn't keep calling back.

Not sure, but I've always had problems getting WYES over the air as well. I suspect it may be because 12.1 is broadcast on RF 11 (see here - warning auto-play video).

That would put it on the old VHF frequencies rather than the UHF spectrum. It could be that the newer antennas don't support that (though again, I'm just guessing).

This is the post I was speaking of with regards to WYES. Don't know if it is factual or not.

Thought I was the only one that watched Stepping Out on Friday. Seriously WYES has some really good "Remember When" documentaries. They just did one a while back on The Warehouse music hall. Really good.

Have you tried facing the antenna in another direction?
Yes. It's not like it even gets better or worse. It's like zero reception. I'm right in the middle or the city too. And we used to get it with the same antenna.

Funny that you mentioned WYES.
I have a Mohu 50, and I have no problems getting PBS/WYES. I live in Kenner.
However, this past weekend, My dad told me that he too wants to get rid of cable. So, I went to Walmart. I saw that they had an RCA flat antenna for sale for about half of what the Mohu costs. So, I took a chance and bought two of them. I took them to my parents house and hooked them up. I got all of the channels except PBS.
I repositioned the antennas and ran another channel search. I got the same results.....No PBS.
Needless to say, I took the antennas back to Walmart.

So, I told my Dad, I think he needs to get the Mohu 50 like I have.

Anyway, I think it may have to do with the brand of antenna.
The Mohu 50 is more expensive, but, I can pick up WYES with it. So I guess the extra $30 is worth it.
