Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (1 Viewer)

Viacom will eventually give in as the cable cutting continues.
Viacom

I would like to have Viacom channels on my PS Vue, but they are not worth a $100 a month. (cable bill down from $140/month to PS vue $44/month)
all they are doing is encouraging people to go watch their shows on apps like Kodi, Mobdro, Showbox, etc..
I wonder if they will start getting pressure from their advertisers?

Screw Viacom. They're doing all of that damn crying, yet one of their subsidiaries, CBS, wants to rob customers of $6 a month to watch replays of broadcast TV (via CBS Access).

Screw Viacom...

I am against taxes like this, but it no way would this affect my decision in cord cutting.
4% tax on $44 is what, $1.76.

So is PSVue generally considered the best live TV streaming option? It seems to have most of the channels that we watch (outside of Nick). Is there a way to get the Nick channels?

I'm trying to convince my family that we could move to streaming services without losing much, if anything, but they're concerned about the convenience of it. My wife typically just sets the DVR to record something and watches it later, so the PSVue DVR capability is attractive. Is the interface intuitive and/or easy to use?

My main concerns are live sports (Saints and soccer), channel availability and convenience.. But right now, I'm leaning towards buying a FireTV for the living room, a Fire Stick for the other rooms, an upgraded router and a step up on my internet package. I think I could save around $75 a month. We're already paying for Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

I don't know what's going on but i can't find streams of anything on exodus. Anyone else having the same problem?

Heard that main site that contains exodus update files has gotten taken down by feds as part of a lawsuit. Though mine still works. Know how to update exodus manually?

Thanks bro. You just reminded me i could do that. I just manually updated and it seems to work. For anybody else just hold the ok or home button with the exodus app highlighted and click information then update (fire tv).

Update.. Bought the latest Amazon Fire TV at Best Buy. Signed up for PSVue 5-day trial and got the wife testing it out. So far it seems pretty nice. I particularly like the guide set up with channels running across the top as columns, and favorite channels listed first.

So Cox Louisiana is now sending out emails to internet customers regarding capped data and charges for going over the cap ($10 for 50GBs). Got my email this afternoon.

NEW ORLEANS -- Some Cox Communications customers who use a heavy amount of data each month to stream video and music could soon see their bills climb.

Beginning July 6, Cox will give most customers in south Louisiana a data plan that allows them to upload or download 1 terabyte of data each month.

Cox said the plan provides enough data is enough to watch 140 two-hour high-definition movies, 300 30-minute standard-definition TV shows, 1,500 three-minute videos, surf the Web for 3,000 hours and listen to 30,000 songs that are four minutes long in one month.

Customers who pay for Cox G1GABLAST service, which provides for faster speed, will be allowed 2 terabytes of data.

Any customer who exceeds that amount, though, will be charged $10 for each additional 50 gigabytes of data used.

I think att & Verizion already does this? It seems like you would have to do a lot of vegging in front on computer& TV screen to go over. Brennan,MLU, Buzd or any poster have more info on this policy?

Me too

But it also shows our usage.

There's a lot of gaming going on and we still haven't hit the cap, so that's a plus.

Yeah, it's weird. The email said my stats show I'm likely to go over the cap, but the most I've ever done was about 600 GB and that's was when I first moved here. I've been under 400 ever since.

I figure this was as good a place as any to ask.

I have an indoor HD Antenna for local channels in Abbeville. I catch the local FOX, ABC, NBC, CW, and a few other channels, but no CBS/KLFY. Doing a little research, I see that all my other channels are UHF, whereas KLFY is VHF. Does anyone else have this problem, or better yet, has anyone overcome this problem?

I'm supposed to get range of up to 60 miles, and I have no issues with any of the other channels. I just moved the antenna to as high as I can on my wall, and it at least recognizes KLFY as a channel when I do a channel search, but nothing but scrambled image comes through.

I definitely have trouble getting my local CBS channel here in Zachary and I have a 60-mile range Mohu. Luckily, Vue has an agreement with WAFB so I just watch it on Vue if there is something I want to watch.

I think it's a conspiracy by CBS. :hihi:

My thoughts (apropos of nothing in particular):

It's been coming for a while. The higher speed you subscribe to, the higher your cap. With everyone cutting the cable and going to streaming, it was kind of inevitable.

Presumably, the highest speed would have a somewhat unreachable cap, although I know there are some consumers of data here that will blow away any limits that might be around.

Personally, I have a fairly high tier of Cox services (I get about 150Mb) and I didn't get the email or a letter, but I also go nowhere near my caps (still stream a good bit, but also have DTV).

There's obviously a money-grab component here to compensate for those trading cable tv for internet service, but by the same token, it's reasonable to hold those accountable for their higher bandwidth usage and associated strain on the system. However, I do think with the prevalence of the internet and the ridiculous lobbying of those providers, that ISPs should be regulated like a utility. It's hard to argue that access to the internet isn't a basic requirement of society these days, at the very least equivalent to phone service when it became a utility.
