Darren Rizzi’s presser: “I’m an accountability guy. We’ve been doing things the same way here for a long time. Change is needed.” (5 Viewers)

Bill Belichick

Interesting stuff! I've always known Belichick as a defensive guru, so I had no idea of his extensive ST experience (and one year on the offensive side of the ball in Detroit?!). Cool find, thanks for sharing!

at the end of the day, its just a lot of words that hardly meant much.

coach what you gonna change?

oh we gonna change a lot. look at it all. then change stuff.

ok coach.
He’s been the coach for an hour at that time. He had t had a chance to go thru things yet.

The record itself will be irrelevant at this point for the rest of the season. It's about his ability to get guys to buy in, play hard for him until the very last second, and rally around him in these last few games. If there's one thing that I appreciated from a guy like Campbell is his ability to get his team to rally around him and play hard for him no matter the circumstances. (His 3-13 season)

It's about the process now rather than the results. If he can showcase the ability to lead and get his guys to really believe in him, I think he'll be a good candidate going into the off-season.
I like that they said he holds people accountable and will call people out. TM insinuated that DA didn’t do that.

That’s why I said they literally wanted to try him out as head coach. So they wouldn’t feel like fools for letting another one get away, like they did with Campbell. 1/2 of a season should give us a decent amount of time to evaluate him. It woudve been better for Rizzi if he at least had a tiny buffer, and fired DA after a 5 game streak, then he could’ve legit had a chance to turn it around. Oh well it is what it is. I can see us going 6-2, to finish out. Which could possibly earn him a job.
I'm not as concerned with the W-L performance as I am in HOW that W-L record is generated. That was the metric for CSP, who I felt had "it"; the metric for DA, who I felt did NOT; and it will be my metric for Rizzi. DA could've gone 6-2 to finish out (I doubt it, but he COULD have) and I still wouldn't believe in him, just as I didn't believe in last year's late-season surge. Beating bad teams is what you're SUPPOSED to do, but it was all DA could do. And now we ARE that crappy team. Happened under DAs watch. That's the thing....folks look at this 0-7 skid and wanna give him a pass for the injuries. If that was an isolated incident, I'd agree. But I'm looking at the ENTIRETY of an 18-25 tenure and a team that wasn't improving, and was actually backsliding. Don't care the reason....he used up his freebies in year 1 & 2, and now when he really could have used some understanding and context, he already used it up.

Back to Rizzi....I like what he's bringing already, but if he simply "talks the talk" and doesn't "walk the walk", he can go to. I'm glad to find out what he has to offer as we're opening up the coaching search. I don't care if this team ends the season at 2-15, or finishes at 10-7. They're probably somewhere in between, but now there's HOPE of the latter. I don't expect it, but I think it COULD happen. Never felt that way about DA. I was always sure he'd find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. And more often than not....he did.

Clean slate with a new guy. Show us what you got Rizz!

Exactly. You have to look beyond the results. :)

Change is needed, like:

• not trying to field punts at the 5-yard-line
• not kicking off the ball through the back of the end zone when time is not on your opponent's side
• not instructing your kick returner to bring the ball out of the end zone when time is not on your team’s side

Go get em, Coach Rizz!

wow... a non sunshine post from you... shocked.

Where is this 6-2 coming from? Isn't Tipton like the #1 or #2 WR? How do you make that work? The talent on the roster isn't going to change. Maybe they make fewer mistakes and play a little better. But they aren't going anywhere without the tools to do so.

I don’t see it, either. Without Shaheed and Olave, this is a really bad WR corps. Whatever Tipton showed in practice isn’t translating on the field. 14 catches for 99 yards. It’s not his fault, shouldn’t have to count on a rookie UDFA, but some of the WR decisions are looking really suspect.

Our offense is essentially Alvin Kamara and then close your eyes and pray.

Secondary depth has disappeared and the DL hasn’t panned out.

It’s going to take heroic levels of coaching and a lot of luck to get more than a couple wins out of this team.

According to Deuce the film doesn’t lie. Apparently the same people are screwing up over and over. DA would tell them to get right, and they nodded their head, but continued to screw up. Da is a good teacher, but he wasn’t able to leverage the payer. So in theory, if you throw in a guy that can motivate players to play at the Saints’ standard, then the results will take care of themselves. We have the talent on paper to win, we now just need those players to execute on film.

Yea I can’t argue any of that. It’s up to Rizzi now. The odds are stacked against him, and he’ll have to do something amazing. So let’s see.
