Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (1 Viewer)

Jets have a younger roster, better defense, talented offense pieces outside of QB, and most of all no Dennis Allen or Pete Carmichael.
The Saints are a whole average year older than the Jets, both defenses are arguably just as good as each other - except the Saints were missing a shutdown CB most of the season, Saints are arguably more talented everywhere on offense short of RB and OLines are a draw, and Saleh is also a defensive head coach that hasn't proven anything offensively in the NFL. At one point the Jets had the #32 offense and #4 defense. But yeah, totally not DA or PC.

Personally I feel like we were the one team ready to roll out the red carpet for Carr and not worry about Rodgers or whatever. Therefore, him putting us on the back burner to see if a prettier girl asks him to the prom doesn’t sit well with me. I’m not sure what the answer is past him but at this point…let him go. Peace out dude.
His visit was 3 weeks ago.
These are my personal opinions.

The guy just got out of seven years with one of the most notoriously mismanaged franchises in the League.
I don’t blame him for checking out a few teams.

I agree with this, but I also think the post Payton era needs a face. This team will certainly go through a rebuild. If not a full rebuild, then a major re-tooling. They will have to market something/someone. Carr is a solid guy that may be marketable enough to keep fans interested.
This may add to your point, but I think it’s very important that the Saints have some sort of success post Payton.
Even if it’s a few division titles just to show the fanbase that there is a future post Payton/Brees.
Carr can be that guy.

I felt the same at first but it seems the theory is he prefers the jets even if that means seeing what happens with AR. He’d rather be their second choice than our 1st. Granted that could be false and I have no idea what their our offer was

If im Carr im absolutely choosing the Jets.

And significantly more cap space.
NY also has an unhappy fanbase and a local media that can eat players alive. Plus, I’m not sure if the concrete jungle is the best place for an Evangelist. The South is a great place for an Evangelist and is a bit more forgiving in terms of player’s performance. He better choose wisely. However, many people love the allure of NY. I personally don’t, but to each their own.

As for rosters, I would say that it’s kinda a wash. We both have great players/rosters. I do give them the edge when it comes to the HC. However, the Jets players, although they may be on the younger side, they are very immature and petty. That stunt they pulled, when they all wore Mike White shirts, was a brutal and immature act, especially when Zach was still part of the team. That’s not the acts of professionalism. Also, a lot of their young players are very “vocal” to the media and social media. Someone needs to get them to shut up when it comes to internal matters. Just my $.02

I thought this was a good segment from AFR, regarding the QB situation. The Jalen Hurts part really hammered the point home for me, about getting a QB on a rookie deal, and resetting. As opposed to overpaying for mediocrity.

Hurts is in his 3rd yr with an excellent team with a very good Oline and very good weapons around him AND a top 5 defense. So if we draft HH @ 40 and don't sign Carr and he busts we've wasted the rest of Cam,Davis and probably AK's career. Almost the same if he takes 3 yrs like Hurts to MAYBE develop then we have 1yr before he signs his next deal @ 25-30m because that's gonna be the going rate for a mid tier QB in 4 yrs. AND he'll be 29, 2yrs younger than Carr. He's not a Burrow or Maholmes that can come in and 1st or 2nd yr play at an elite or near elite level

Are you prepared for the possibility that Carr does not sign with NO?

The allure of playing for NY isn’t the same as it was in 1975 or 1985. Heck, it even doesn’t have the allure it had in 2005.
This is a post streaming era. Everyone gets every game. You see a lot of players make their championship marks and HOF careers in small markets. Payton Manning. Brees. Favre. Rodgers.
Mahomes. Burrow. Allen.
Being in NY or any other big market is no longer a requirement.

And to your point about it being better for a Evangelist to be in the South; is it?
Because I’ve lived here my entire life and there is vast difference between New Orleans and the Bible Belt South. IMO, NOLA and Atlanta are the two cities in the Deep South that aren’t “Bible Belt” towns.

Seems like the only teams for him are the saints/ jets and maybe the panthers. He rented a air bnb at the combine to meet with more teams and it led to the panthers being the only additional team.
