Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (1 Viewer)

I don’t like seeing this about Carr.
Joey Bosa on Carr: "We knew once we hit him a few times, he really gets shook. And you saw on (Covington's) sack, he was pretty much curling into a ball before we even got back there. Great dude, great player...but we know once you get pressure on him, he kind of shuts down."
In his defense, no QB likes getting hit. You hit any QB on the regular and they start performing erratically.

Same for Brady, Rodgers, Brees, etc. None of those guys like getting hit.

Think it is time we move past this idea. It’s obvious the team still believes its window is open, so I believe as a collective fanbase we need to start focusing on “How do we immediately make this team as good as it can possibly be” rather than worrying about rebuilding or getting the cap in order.
I can appreciate that, although I’m not worried. It all is what it is and I’ll be a fan of the team regardless, like I’ve always been.

I’m not a fan of Carr but unlike many others I’m not a bigot so I can appreciate someone else’s opinion may be different than mine.

That point of view makes sense. But in reality that plan would at a minimum take 5 years. We can’t draft a QB this year. And we don’t have enough to trade up even if we include 40. So a drafted Qb won’t happen until 2024. By then we’d be having to replace all of our great defensive vets. We’d need two DE’s at least one Dt assuming we draft one this year. Mathieu would need replacing as well as Maye. We’d need at least one more great Lb. At Cb we have youth, so we could be ok. I’m not sure how our Oline will be in two years, but I’ll just say it’s going to be OK. The skill positions would also need refreshing. So we’re looking at a 4-5 year plan to totally flip the roster with youth and no old vets eating dead cap. And that is the best case scenerio, what if the QB we draft in 2024, doesn’t pan out. Then you have to burn at least another year. So be prepared not to want to watch Saints football for half of a decade if we go that route.
I can certainly appreciate that point of view. I’ll be cheering them on no matter. We’ve been terrible for most of my life….all will be what it will be.

Jim Everett 2.0?

I disagree, our window is not closed. We have a pretty good young to in their prime players. We have one of the best groups of CBs in the league. An Oline that is good and young. We drafted a very good WR and found a gem in another. If we stay fairly healthy and add a few pieces our window is open, especially with the NFC having few top teams
I can appreciate that. Also agree on the NFC being weak, especially our division.

Vehemently disagree on our o line being good. If Penning can get healthy and be dominant that will help tho for sure.

I always hope we remain as healthy as possible but the team seems to be cursed in that department imo.

If Carr ends up here I’ll be his biggest fan.

I thought the same.
Everett’s Rams teams early in his career were loaded on offense, including OL. He looked really good back then, but once the roster slipped he was not a QB that could elevate average players.

And once teams learned they could shake him up with physical play, the flood gates opened.

If the Saints do sign Carr he will need a beefed up OL and a safety-valve at RB and/or TE to have the best chance of him not getting the “shakes.”

I agree, watched him a lot on both teams.

Fret not, Peat will have his back. Or will Peat be on his back? 😂

The Saints are always the "leverage" team in these negotiations... we go through this every year with a prominent free agent.

I won't get my hopes up. If he signs...he signs.

That’s a good point.
I think we're at a point where Mrs. B needs to consider what will sell tickets. It appears that the ticket demand is far from what it used to be. Tickets are no longer a commodity. With the crime issues on top of it, she has to make sure people keep coming while they figure a way forward. Carr would be a nice cornerstone to the transitionary product.

I thought this was a good segment from AFR, regarding the QB situation. The Jalen Hurts part really hammered the point home for me, about getting a QB on a rookie deal, and resetting. As opposed to overpaying for mediocrity.
