Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (4 Viewers)

Slightly leaning away from the only team that’s offered a contract to Carr for weeks now doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t sound like something that would come from Carr’s preference but through his agent while negotiating more guaranteed money or bonuses. I definitely need to look up the outcomes of Fowler’s past big FA negotiations reports series.

I hear folks say that Carr won’t lose you games if you have talent around him, but if you are paying him $40M+, what talent are you putting around him to help him win games?

Him signing with the Jets saves us from ourselves.
There's already talent around him if they didn't sign anyone else. Whether it's enough is an open question because we don't know the stats of either of Kamara or Thomas. If by some miracle both are available and they get a solid alternative to Kamara in the draft, there's room to work with.

Nobody is paying him 40+. The reports say he wants 35 and our offer is expected to be below that.

I personally just don’t see how anyone can look at our division, look at our roster, look at our schedule, and not understand why the team thinks it’s in position to do something special if it can land a good QB.

I get it, you lack faith in DA, but guess what…that’s not how the team is going to operate, so you need to get over the idea of this “Oh we need to tear it down and rebuild” doom and gloom stuff.

Things will need to break our way for sure. Heck things will have to break the Bucs and Panthers way too in order for either one of them to win the South (the reason it was so wide open until the end is everyone was dealing with their own problems).

We will need a lot of breaks to go our way if we want to win the South, and I don’t think risking that much money for a guy like Carr is a smart move. If things don’t go our way we will still stink, but we will also be paying $35+ to Carr. Lucky us?

I thought I was the only one.

Just want to point out that wanting to go in a different direction isn’t doom and gloom to some. I’d perceive more doom and gloom if we do sign Carr. All a matter of perspective.

Where is this 40m+ coming from ??? Even his agent is saying 35m and most think it will be about 28-30m SMH

Had we decided to go with a different head coach this year, I would be all for the Carr signing, and not for counting us in on the Caleb Williams sweepstakes, but with DA/PC/ and questions about this roster under their leadership, I’m not sure Carr helps us much.

For what it’s worth, Vegas seems to think we are the favorites, pre-free agency.
Those odds probably factor in some chance of getting Carr, I would be interested to see what they would be if Carr signed with the Jets tomorrow.

If they don’t factor in the possibility of signing Carr, then in theory we could run it back with Winston/Dalton or grab Garoppolo for far fewer dollars.

We might be paying $30 million+, but not likely $35+. And I don't think they will stink with Carr behind center. The question is how healthy and available the rest are. I think if they're serious about winning now, they need Carr. If they're more about rebuilding, then you go for a younger QB prospect and slowly build towards that.

I'd rather have Carr, but I can see why some would rather rebuild.

One who averages over 66% completion rate with a 70% in his career, a 2+/1 TD/Int ratio, 4K yards/season and 25-30 TDs per season all while being durable, avaliable, athletic and a leader of men?
Who is this you are describing?
