Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (1 Viewer)

It’s not even the good NY team. I could understand the Giants because they have standards, but to handle everything the NY media has for…the Jets?!?!
Well with a QB the jets are setup to actually be better than the Giants.

We shall see

This is the time for posturing by all parties, particularly the Jets with Rodgers a possible trade target, etc. Until we get some word one way or another about the choice Carr makes I'll be skeptical about any pronouncements. Honestly at this point I am OK either way it goes and just hope a decision is made in the next week or so!

All this and still no contract offer huh?

Sounds like a classic case of an agent posturing and "putting word out there."

We shouldn't be all that interested in saving his job. What does that really accomplish, get Dennis Allen a couple years worth of HC paychecks while we suffer through mediocre football 17 games a year. If he was a legendary/successful coach at one point and on a on a downturn, sure scratch-claw-bite your way to some level of success to keep him in house, but he's a bad head coach doing what bad head coaches do and we shouldn't allow him to prolong his bad head coaching career for the sake of prolonging his bad head coaching career.

And way too many folks are fine with this....IMO.....

I find this ridiculous… am I getting this wrong? Both of you are advocating for the Saints to lose as not to help the Coach keep his job?

Don’t get better so we lose and the HC gets fired??? Should we only draft bad players too? Just to make sure?

Could be also coming from Carr's agent tbh trying to get more money from the Saints
More likely… you don’t want your asset going to another team to drive up the price, only to have that other team say “no thanks” and now the original team is like “remember that original offer we gave you? Weeeeeelll it may have been a little high”

We're not advocating we lose on purpose...we're advocating that we not tie any long term assets to extend an obvious temporary coaching situation. If you truly think DA can take a team to the SuperBowl, sure tie up the cap for the next 4 years to Carr. If you're only getting better to get good enough to not get DA fired, then you need to re-assess the why you're doing what you're doing.

Sometimes you need to take a step back and ask "Why?" instead of just assuming "It makes us better, Franchise QB". LV lost with Carr...we blame it on coaching, you think DA who coached us to our talent floor W-L record can get the most out of Carr?

Yup, actually TBH I hope I'm dead wrong about DA and he proceeds to lead us to multiple division championships, SB's, playoffs every year, etc......

Because he is the coach of the Saints and we have no choice in the matter.....BUT, I've seen the Saints hold onto bad coaching staffs multiple times over the years and it never turns out well, and I fear that it is extremely likely that ownership/management are repeating that mistake....

In short, looking at it from a long term perspective, you can't find the next young, great coach if you aren't even looking for him....

Was it reported he left without a contract offer? I’ve tried to Google it since seeing that earlier this morning but can’t find anything.

Haven’t seen it anywhere, either. Other than this board.

Yep...bottom of the 9th down 1, 2 outs and a runner on 1st...I'm not going to get mad about losing on a fly out that reached the warning track, but I'll be pissed if we lost on an attempted bunt to sneak a runner onto first. Keeping DA is that bunt attempt, we need to be bold again take a shot at another young up and coming coach that's under the radar

To be fair, outside of 2009, Payton couldn't take the Saints to the super bowl with a HOF QB, either. But, could DA win with a good QB and OC? Still not sure about PC. A good defense and a good offense usually wins a lot of games. The Saints have to make the right moves, but I don't see why that's unrealistic. If it's super bowl or bust, I hope you're prepared for a whole lot of bust.

For me, the main thing that is missing is the confident feeling that <insert Saints coach name> has it under control. For most of the fan base, It only took one year for SP to earn that title. Like SP, for DA to earn my confidence, something special has to happen that exceeds expectations. Getting Carr and an elite RB in the draft could be the one-two punch needed to jump start this team. Similar to Drew Brees / Reggie Bush combo. Or hitting home runs in the draft with a QB/RB etc. The bottom line is that something major has to happen to this team in the offseason to be legit on paper, first. Then we have to prove that we can win without SP. Winning the South and a playoff game would at least stop me from wearing out my F5 key. SP set a high bar for sure

I don't think that we'll ever get past the Divisional, while Rob'em Roger is in control. We have had things in our grasp, but an eggregious call/ non-call has helped our opposition advance. I'm hoping that is was only a SP thing, but really don't think so. Oh, the lackluster and vanilla playcalling, coupled with bad clock managent, by our coaching staff will not even get us the division.

Except Loomis won't hang DA out to dry. He's trying to do everything he can to make him successful. No one was going to win with Dalton, his record as a loser is twice as long as DA's. Payton couldn't win with Siemian, does that make him a bad coach? If he fails and we put him in the best position to succeed then at least we can say it was all on him and clean house.

LV lost with McDaniels who got the nickname Josh Mishandles for a reason. If you're tying up cap anywhere it should be at QB. We can't compete without one. At least the next coach would have a capable QB to win with while we clear the bad contracts off the books.
