Falcons signed Kirk Cousins to 4-year/180M, $100 million guaranteed (1 Viewer)

What has Carr done to prove hes better than Kirk? All the Saints are going to be able to do this offseason is go backwards while the Falcons have taken a bunch of steps forward already going from Ridder to Kirk. Not sure how you get you have to be a pessimist to look at the facts that Kirk Cousins has always been a better and more productive player than Carr. It's just facts.

Im with you. But youre up against an illogical wall with that particular poster. Theres virtually no metric that you can point to that says Carr is better than Cousins. Youll be called a pessimist for pointing out actual data. Youre better off arguing with a brick.

Why am not overly concerned about this one bit....seriously. He couldn't get it done in Minny with all that talent.
So what makes anyone think he can in Atlanta?

If by "get it done" you mean "beat us," then yes, he's done that aplenty actually.

I couldn't care less what his playoff record is; he's proven more than capable of handling our squad head-to-head given a decent set of weapons -- which he'll have in Atlanta. We couldn't win our dumpster fire of a division last year, and **** just got a lot harder.

This move puts us 3rd. I don’t like this at all.
no no no remember were winners now. thanks to aaron brook 2000 run for our first playoff win. call me crazy but the bless you boys need to start counting der blessing. geaux saints.

This is the point everyone is missing. On what earth do you want Cousins over Lamar a year later plus a couple of first round picks. Was such a short sighted move by them last year.
I'm so glad they did but there was something going on with Lamar that goes beyond the Falcons Falconing. The fact that 3-4 teams immediately put out statements saying they would not pursue Lamar was unlike anything I remember seeing. Seems like there was some level of collusion going on - not sure if it was about Lamar, his agent, Baltimore, or what, but it was fishy AF.

We had our hands full with Tyson Bagent but we shouldn't worry about a guy who already beat a DA defense in the Superdome in the playoffs.

Agreed 100%

Sorry, I guess I do need to pump the brakes. I must have been thinking about the Saints losing to the Falcons last year with D. Ridder as the Falcons QB vs a healthy Cousin's next season.

You probably also forgot about the Falcons losing and the team that everyone suddenly thinks is a Kirk Cousins away from being good giving up 48 points to a bad New Orleans offense and only scoring 17.

1. Cousins
2. Maker Bayfield
3. Carr

IMO

I'd go Cousins, Carr, and then Mayfield for now. Mostly because Mayfield has to show that last year wasn't a fluke and that he can do it again under a new offensive coordinator. Regardless, they are all very close and the order can change quickly based on decline due to age, increased production due to health and scheme, or regression due to a change in scheme and talent around them.

Last year Saints had the best QB in the division and couldn’t win it. It’s officially no longer the case and Baker may have even passed up Carr by the end of last year.

Anyone that thought Carr was the solution at QB to turn the Saints into a very good team was kidding themselves. But, the same is true of Cousins with the Falcons and Mayfield with Tampa. All of them depend on the team and talent surrounding them. They are all very close in terms of level of QB and who looks better will depend on who is in a scheme that fits his talents and the talent around them. The issue for the Saints last year is they had a terrible OL that couldn't pass protect for half the year, couldn't run block for the entire year (maybe due to scheme), and did have a contested catch/red zone receiver. If that changes this year then Carr will look as good as Cousins and Mayfield meaning they will all be in the range of #10 to #15 QB in the NFL depending on the year. The major difference is Mayfield still has time to learn, Carr still has a little upside in the right system, and Cousins is at best likely to stay the same or regress slowly from age 36 on.

Not at all. I would try to explain my point but I'm noticing a certain trend here on the forum boards where certain posters are close to trolling instead of letting folks type their opinions. Hope this answers your statement. Have a great day also.

Lol. You can have any opinion you want but when you post it on a public message board some people are going to agree and some will disagree. That's kind of the point of a place like this.

Sheesh. Youre all over the place as usual.

The other 8 systems were apparently not the right system either.

Those comments aren't inconsistent. He does have a little bit of upside, but even his best isn't above mid-level NFL starter and not good enough to carry a team to make it good on his own.

You're overreacting and failing to comprehend as usual.

Cousins has been in the right place at the right time in his career to make serious bank. I'd rate him as a good, but not great QB, but his last two contracts have been way above his skill level.

As for going to Atlanta, I'm worried about the weapons he has to work with. He's a good fit for them, but compared to the other options - getting one of the top rookies (which is doubtful now) or even Fields, I'm less concerned with this move. Especially with the capital they invested in him.

The NFC South will be an interesting race.
