Can't believe people here think this is a good signing at all. People's irrational hatred of DA and DC are showing. Kirk is 35, coming off a fairly nasty (and late) ACL injury, and learning a new offense with new pieces. It'll be a full season before they see any results. Another year older.

He had JJ, far and away the best WR in the league, and looked below average nearly all the time. London and Pitts are no JJ lol.

My friend was saying he thinks this makes the Falcons the best team in the division. Of course he also thought Cousins was the QB for the Minny Miracle (he's not the only one apparently I corrected another person social media on that, and saw more people misremembering that I didn't engage with) so maybe that's part of it. Historically he does play the Saints well and I acknowledge that, but that was also on two different teams, one of which I believe have had a better roster than Atlanta does now for the last 3-5 years. What it really boils down for to me is that Kirk Cousins was essentially the "Derek Carr" of his FA class when he was leaving Washington, good but not consistently great for an organization that's been in the doldrums for years. He was brought in to take Minnesota to another level and it was a mixed bag with some highs and lows but ultimately they didn't get close to a superbowl. I don't think he's a bad QB, but I don't think he's moving the needle too much for ATL and especially not over one off-season.

This is the most Falcons thing they could have done, and now we don’t have to worry about them for another handful of years.

What has Carr done to prove hes better than Kirk? All the Saints are going to be able to do this offseason is go backwards while the Falcons have taken a bunch of steps forward already going from Ridder to Kirk. Not sure how you get you have to be a pessimist to look at the facts that Kirk Cousins has always been a better and more productive player than Carr. It's just facts.

Cousins best years are behind him. I love this move as it kills Falcons cap for a few years while tying them to and old guy coming off an achilles injury. They won't be good for awhile again.

Only because desperate NFL teams will do desperate things. The Vikings finally saw the light and realized he was never going to be the “it” QB.
Now the Falcons are desperate and want instant results at QB instead of drafting one. So he again benefits financially. Good for him.

I think the Vikings would have liked him back, but if he was going to take a discount, which Kirk doesn't do. That limits the ability of you to build the rest of the team and part of the reason the Vikings didn't have more success.

We needed a DE before this happened. I really think we need to get players who get to the QB. Atlanta has too many weapons and Cousins is too old for us to not try and hit him every time he drops back.

Last year Saints had the best QB in the division and couldn’t win it. It’s officially no longer the case and Baker may have even passed up Carr by the end of last year.

This is the point everyone is missing. On what earth do you want Cousins over Lamar a year later plus a couple of first round picks. Was such a short sighted move by them last year.

He is trash , older and coming off of an Achilles injury. Send pressure up the middle and he will fall like a baby. Saints do better against traditional QBs than a running one.

Maybe not the full extent, but my thinking is definitely along these lines.

Cousins is/was an above average QB. No doubt. But he's not getting any younger, AND he's coming off of a season-ending injury. Our defense is much worse against mobile running quarterbacks, and Cousins has never been that, and certainly isn't going to start now.

Yeah, it's decent competition, but nothing I'm really scared of.
