Yeah… a Center when they have McCoy and Ruiz on the current roster would be classic Saints!Steve Avila or trade up for Van Ness
They are dragging their feet on the fifth year option for Ruiz, he’ll be a free agent next year if they don’t pick it up. Its not too cheap at $14m, which is the same as what Lindstrom is getting in the second year of his mega deal.Yeah… a Center when they have McCoy and Ruiz on the current roster would be classic Saints!
But do they all have the length that the Saints covet at the position? That may thin the field from their perspective.the defensive end drop off from pick 29 to 40 is basically zero, there’s like 7 defensive ends in that range with relatively the same grade, only way we go DE at 29 is if a top 5 drops, as in Anderson, Murphy, tyree, vann ness, smith.
Between ade ade, Felix, ojulari, foskley, McDonald, etc you’re splitting hairs
Maybe, maybe not, but I’m at the point that I’m kind of tired of the saints having a “type”. Must be this tall, this RAS, this length, etc. eventually you gotta pick players that play. Hassan reddick too small to play in a 4-3 and rush the passer, killed it this season, Elvis dumerville too short to play end, wrong. It’s almost like when you’re looking for a girlfriend, must be this tall, this smart, make this much money, her favorite color is blue and likes anime, keep looking for the perfect prospect and keep missing out on players that can play. Maybe what I’m saying is dumb but whatever. I’m just tired of the narrative of oh this guy can play in a 3-4 but not a 4-3, fact of the matter is teams are in the nickel about 70% of the time so 4-3 of 3-4 you have 4 lineman on the line in the nickel, if you need a pass rusher, draft a guy who can pass rush, regardless of size, need a run stuffer? Draft a guy who’s good vs the run.But do they all have the length that the Saints covet at the position? That may thin the field from their perspective.
So Schmitz (Schmidt) U of Minnesota is the selection?Yeah… a Center when they have McCoy and Ruiz on the current roster would be classic Saints!
I hear you and I literally argued against the minimum criteria thing in another thread just yesterday. But if we're talking about what the Saints will do, they undeniably have form in valuing a certain length.Maybe, maybe not, but I’m at the point that I’m kind of tired of the saints having a “type”. This would make a lot of sense. It does not fit the Saints -restrictive- model though:I went w/Kancey earlier, but the more I think about it, a very realistic sleeper pick at 29 would be DB/S/CB Brian Branch. DB is DA’s forte, & Branch is the best & most versatile one in this entire draft. He’s a total Budda Baker-type, but way more dynamic vs the run & as a pressure player/blitzer.
Don't forget the Safeties. I've read (in a bio posted to a mock draft site only TBF) that Jartavius Martin has abilities well suited to nickel, but could also play deep as needed. What are other's opinions on him as a mid round option? This would make a lot of sense. It does not fit the Saints -restrictive- model though:
