Once we get past game 12, if we still have a 10% chance of playoffs, then I'm 100% for trying to win.

But at that point if we are out, I think we sit anybody remotely injured and work out the young guys under game conditions.

The rules need to be tweaked to eliminate the attractiveness of tanking. Baseball has needed tweaking for decades. You reach a point where its "whats the point?"

It's a combo of draft picks and this franchise needing a new era and culture of competent coaching and a new boss in charge. I don't want any chance of false foolings thinking rizzi can be the guy for the next 10 years.
If Rizz takes a 2-7 team to the playoffs, he has my vote.

When your current QB isn't going to take you to the Super Bowl and your in the market for a young QB to take the reigns, and your 2-7 and season over, I feel like it's poor planning not to play for a high draft pick that could change the next decade of your team's success.

That might be true if a QB worth a top 10 pick were in the draft this year, but I don't think any of the QBs in this draft are worth a top 10 pick. Some of them might go top 10 because they are QBs but I don't think any of them have really shown to be guys worth a top 10 pick.

This feels a lot like the 2022 draft where you would be better off taking a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round if you see a guy with high upside like Willis.

With how Penning played last Sunday, the doom on the Offensive line may have been overblown. Think they could add another piece to it. The D.line, there needs a big rebuilding there. Gotta go find 2, 320-340lb behemoths to stuff the run and need to go find a 245-250lb speedster to rush the passer and cause havoc on 3rd and longs. The rest of the draft can address safety, WR, RB, etc. Edge is still a problem though.

I understand. I guess it comes down to a matter of opinion and only one opinion matters, the Saints'. Me personally, I feel like Cam Ward is worth a top 10 pick.

That's fair. I like Ward the most of any of the QBs. He's great on off schedule throws, but I think he struggles in structure and tends to rush his reads. I also think he needs to improve his accuracy from the pocket. But, yes, if he can get better at that he could be great. If the Saints have a conviction that he can be taught to throw in structure then I have no problem with them using a top 10 pick on him. And frankly, I'd be fine with they using a top 10 pick on any QB they believe they can make a franchise QB.

I don't personally think that guy is in this draft and would rather look to take a QB later in this draft but I'm just a fan so I could be totally wrong about the QBs in this class.

Considering that 1st round picks have a success rate of around 50%, I'm never going to pull for my team to lose for better draft picks.
Exactly. Early 1st round picks have even less success than later ones. Draft picks do not help teams get better or the Jets, Jaguars, Bears, Texans, Raiders, etc would have a lot more super bowls. There’s no such thing as a rebuild in the NFL.

Losing kills your culture, makes it less it less desirable for coaches and free agents, puts less revenue in your pocket, etc.

Winning makes it easier to resign proven talent, builds stable cultures, builds stable coaching regimes (remember that often players are drafted to fit certain schemes) makes it easier to get better free agents and coaches and gives you more cash to spend.

Winning is also a lot more fun to watch and makes talking about the team with miserable people a lot more tolerable.

Losing is really really dumb. Those of you on board with this, need to give yourselves a reality check.

Jamarcus Russell, Akili Smith, Matt Leinhart, Ryan Leaf, Todd Marinovich, Johnny Manziel, Art Schliter, Heath Schuler, Vince Young, Jake Locker and Brady Quinn, among others, were all considered “can’t miss” QBs. All rated significantly higher than any 2024 QB. All were busts.

The Saints need help everywhere pretty much. And in fact, because of the potential Haener and Rattler (with more experience), and even Carr (surrounded by a better team) all have, QB is one of our deeper positions, believe it or not. Tanking is NEVER a good idea because it’s all a 50/50 crapshoot at best. If anything, this needs to be a finish the best you can and then trade down in the draft kinda of year. There is absolutely no reason at this point to believe Ward, Gabriel, Dart, Howard, Rourke, Sanders, Milroe, Evers, Nussmeier or Allar are better, or even have a chance to be better at this point, than any of the numerous busts ranked above. Nothing personal, but you concept has no basis to be plausible in any way, shape or form.

My focus right now is on Rizzi. I don't have a problem having someone from a special teams background to be promoted as head coach. John Harbaugh is. Dave Toub should have been a head coach.

It's not only about being really good at what you are responsible of coordinating. I always think it is more important to have the capacity to surround yourself with the right coaches, by forming, hiring, and being able to change the path when needed.
