I'm itching for baseball (1 Viewer)

I would love to turn this into a Sox bashing thread :ezbill:

What the heck are yall talking about? I was wondering who these guys are they were discussing, then it hit me... Louisiana has fallen off the baseball map! Red Sox? Cubs? YANKEES! Oh God please help them!

So we're gonna ship the Saints off on some idiotic trip to England thinking those people need to figure out New Orleans is here. But....

Its the ASTROS who need some "marketing." Are you kidding me? We're in the neighboring state, and a kid from Lafayette here mentions the Yankees as "we." sigh.

So lets do this: We'll play the 2nd home cardinals series in Kenner, Cubs in Baton Rouge, so you can root also for those LSU infielders, maybe the Dodgers in Lafayette, and a series w/ the Dallas Rangers in Shreveport, so all the Cowboys fans can feel at home.

The Astros oughta be to Louisiana what the Saints are to Mississippi.

Dont take me too seriously, ok? Its all fun. But seriously, I'm excited about baseball season too. Its gonna be fun, and you know, one game out of 162 is way less stressful than one game out of 16.

Yall come see the Astros when you can. I'll be glad to help you get around H-Town. New Orleans Gulf Coast sister, Houston.

Oh, and here's your future superstar: Ladies & Gentlemen, Hunter Pence.
Really, how can you not love someone this funny looking?

You can't compare me to people who pick their favorite team based on who is winning at the moment. The Yankees haven't won a world series since I was like 10 or 11. I see no allegiance that I should have to the Astros, I've never liked them, as a matter of fact I loathe them. We used to go to the Astrodome to watch them when the Braves came to town (my Dad's favorite and my favorite NL team). I started liking the Yankees because I was a huge fan of Bernie Williams and others that they had. I refer to them as "we" because I watch nearly all of their games, I keep up with all the breaking news, I post on a Yankees forum, I wear Yankees hats (even though everyone gives me crap for it), and they are my favorite team. The real bandwagon fans are the 3 million Red Sox fans that popped up over night.

Which has not been the order of the day since Jeter/Williams/Posada/Rivera were in their farm system. That's been one of my biggest reasons for not having much respect for that club. I am pleasantly surprised by them keeping the young pitchers given the lack of production from those overpaid old farts. Hughes, Chamberlain and Wang should have solid careers, but I don't know enough about Kennedy.

:plus-un2: ,000,000. That was my gripe for years; George would trade away all the young talent for past-their-prime, overpaid players. Seems like he would have taken notice of what worked so well for him, but then again George always wants to win NOW. I'm also pretty pleased that they seem to have learned that lesson and are hanging on to some of these promising young pitchers.

I'll make the trip to Houston when the Stros play the Phillies and Red Sox this summer.

:D

Don't count on tickets to the Red Sox series, or the Yankees either. Both had lotteries for the right to buy tickets, and I'm sure they'll be all gone. I'm an Astros fan because when I moved here I decided to pull for the home team. And they are such an easy team to pull for; they're really good guys (and Mike, I miss Luke Scott too...one of my favorites, who took the time to get out of his car and sign a ball for Collin...:( ). But the team I first started watching, when I took the time to stop hating baseball and learn about it instead, was the Yankees. We lived in NJ and got the MSG network (before YES network was born), so we saw all Yankees games (didn't have the channel to see the Mets, so too bad for them). Since they were the first team I pulled for, and the team that got me interested in baseball, I'll always pull for them. Funny, one reason I started pulling for them was because of Andy Pettitte...he seemed like such a good guy, it was easy to pull for him. He came to Houston the same year we did, so of course it made the transition to Astros fan an easy one for me. But I will say that I am an Astros fan first now. :9: Sure wish I could get tickets to one of those Yankees/Astros games....:grumpy:

Mike, I agree...Pence will be a star one day. He's certainly on the way.

And let's definitely plan some Hou-Dat Saints days at Minute Maid. I can't wait for baseball season to start, either!

To those of you lucky enough to get to a game at Yankee Stadium this year...I'm insanely jealous. Going to that ballpark is almost a religious experience. I'm still ticked that they're building a new stadium instead.

I wish I could afford to just get to New York to see Yankee Stadium, I would probably stand in awe with my mouth wide open.

I understand that. Set up some measurables & its on. I smell a chance for me to make some money here.
Do you have loose definition of the term superstar?
The superstars that are in the league that I see are:
A-Rod
Jeter
Big Papi
Manny
Ichiro
Vlad
Reyes
Wright
Pujols
Santana
Chipper

So thats 11 superstars not counting the guys like Maddux, the Big Hurt, Griffey and others who are no longer superstars.

What about Bonds (if he plays.) Im no Bonds fan by any stretch, but would you put him as superstar or former superstar?

I am DYING for baseball to begin. As primadox says "when I took the time to stop hating baseball and learn about it instead" I got mostly into LSU, UNO, and Tulane baseball. Then came the Zephyrs. After I moved up here, I could finally hop a train to Shea or Yankee stadium or drive over to Fenway. I quickly became a Met fan.. an almost seamless transition for a Saints fan. When the Zephyrs switched affiliation to the Mets, it was almost a dream come true. Now I can watch the Zephyr games on slingbox and keep tabs on the Mets prospects! Between football and baseball, there's now only 1 month of dead sports during the year.

If Bonds plays then yes he is one. I don't think anyone is going to sign him.

Ah, I wish you could too. Even as a brand-new baseball fan, the aura and magic of that place was obvious to me. I wish I could get back for one more game.

I'm sure they will bring monument park to the new stadium, which will help establish some instant mystique for the new place. Of course, winning a World Series in the first year or so wouldn't hurt either :ezbill:
