I'm itching for baseball

I'm glad we didn't pull the trigger on the deal. We have some very good young pitching and I want to see them developed. Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy, and Wang is still relatively young. I think Dave Eiland will be good since he worked with the young pitchers for so long. Cashman has been pretty intent on developing the young talent, and we know Girardi can win with the young guys.

Which has not been the order of the day since Jeter/Williams/Posada/Rivera were in their farm system. That's been one of my biggest reasons for not having much respect for that club. I am pleasantly surprised by them keeping the young pitchers given the lack of production from those overpaid old farts. Hughes, Chamberlain and Wang should have solid careers, but I don't know enough about Kennedy.

Kennedy at his best could be the next Mike Mussina. Not much power, but plenty of control on a number of offspeed pitches. He was a first round sandwich pick last year along with Joba, and moved up the ranks from A ball to the pros with Joba as well. It was pretty amazing when they would pitch in the same rotation in the minors - it was an 'anything you can do I can do better' relationship - Kennedy would go 6.0IP 1ER 5K and then Joba would come back in the next couple days with a 5.2 0ER 10K performance. IIRC, Kennedy actually had the better ERA of the two on the way up.

Kennedy will be a fine late rotation starter. Wang doesn't get enough respect IMO, he's had back to back 19 win seasons. Hughes is on his way to winning a lot of games and hopefully Chamberlain can dominate as a starter as much as he did as a releiver.

Why did someone rate this thread low?

I just rated it 5 stars. Some people hate baseball for some reason.

Because 'baseball is boring'

Kennedy will be a good late rotation starter in the near future, but I really think he projects as a possible ace along the lines of Mike Mussina if he reaches his full potential. A lot of the pundits projected him anywhere from a #3-5 but that was before he tore up the minors and won MiLB player of the year. We will see.

Baseball is only boring to those who:
1) Don't understand it.
2) Don't give it a chance.

Speaking of baseball, ULL started off the season with a 2-1 win against Army. Danny Farquar pitched a solid game, 2 hits and 0 runs through 6 innings.

It's not me you have to convince :ezbill:. I'm even taking off work opening day and hittin the bar with a bunch of my co-workers..

I skipped BM one day last year to go work a Zephyrs day game in April. Skipped some classes to go to the play-off game on September 5th.

Wow. That's how this thread got active? By challenging baseball's place? That's funny.

I will be going to as many games at Yankmee Stadium because it's they're last year there and for really no other reason. It helps that they're free for me and I get to sit 10 rows between Homeplate and 3rd Base. Shea is just as schaweet. I sit 16 rows between Homeplate and 1st Base.:9:
