I'm itching for baseball (1 Viewer)

IMO, George would have pulled the trigger on Santana, but his boys just keep making bad move after bad move, not to mention their comments to the press.

IIRC, wasn't Cano one of the players to be included in the trade, but they didn't want to part with him? George would have and has made those sacrifices before (Soriano) to get what he wanted. Does this fall more on Cashman? I really don't think so cause I have always believed that he was just doing what George allowed him to do ala Al Davis. Shoot, Theo has more power than Cashman.

I've already got my ticket for the Subway Series in Shea and I can't wait. Besides the NO/ATL rivalry, this is my favorite rivalry to be a part of.

I never heard anything about Cano being offered, but there where so many rumors flying around, who knows. Hughes was on the table in a package for about 2 days, I'm glad that didn't go through.

Cashman had more power over the last couple years, as much as any other GM. however since the brothers took over, it's hard to say how much power he has anymore. I personally think the non-trade for Santana shows that Cashman still has plenty power. I sure hope so anyway.

I know the twins wanted Cano thrown in. I am not sure if the Yankees included him tho. But I know Phil Hughes or Joba would have been in the deal.

For the Sox, it was Ellsbury and Lester or Buckholtz.

To be fair to the Mets and Twins, I am a Sox fan so I knew the players better who the Yankees and Sox were offering. I don't know to much about the Mets farm league so Minn. very well could have gotton some fine players, and i'm sure they did. I am kinda bias thinking the others offered more simply because I know the players they were offering. Was not to sure who the Mets gave up.

I am in the same situation. I know tons bout the Sox and Yankees farms, but not much about the Mets. From what I read in the media, the Mets were seen as a club who didn't have the farm to get the deal done, and weren't ever considered seriously in the running, since they wouldn't offer a package with Reyes. After the trade happened, many baseball writers said the Twins overplayed their hand and that the reported packages from both the Red Sox and Yankees were both better than what they ended up receiving. Time will tell I guess.

The only one I really know is Gomez. He was called up mid seasonish and was really coming along well. The dude is faster than Reyes and you can take that to the bank. I can't wait to see him on that turf. Good bat too.

I believe this is the low down on who was traded. This could be a bit off, so I'll keep looking for the official version.

"The Mets' package likely would include pitchers Phil Humber, Kevin Mulvey and Deolis Guerra and outfielder Carlos Gomez."

All I know is Gomez.

I got two names for you American League:

Eric Bedard
Felix Hernandez

Weep in fear.

Seattle will be a surprise to everyone that has written them off. They have quitely built a dang good team. But, they're in the West and we all know how weird the West can be.

I think M's match up great with the Angels now and could make a strong run at the division with the A's selling off and the Rangers being the Rangers.

The A's always seem to amaze me year after year. Sure, they had one of the best 1,2,3,4 punch for a while, but those kids just don't know how to lose. It will be interesting to see how they do without all that pitching even though there are some good potentials in that rotation. Never count out the A's.

Anaheim will be Anaheim and the Rangers will continue to be a disgrace with or without that massive salary.

Actually there is still one spot open right now. I dont know if we have a 12th man that just hasnt signed up yet or if the league creator lsu31always (I think it was him anyway) has somebody lined up, but maybe you can still get in.

I don't know who didn't sign up. The only one that didn't have a PM option was Saintman. I e-mailed him thru the forum.
If that spot is still open on monday I will PM the info to Yago

I'm glad we didn't pull the trigger on the deal. We have some very good young pitching and I want to see them developed. Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy, and Wang is still relatively young. I think Dave Eiland will be good since he worked with the young pitchers for so long. Cashman has been pretty intent on developing the young talent, and we know Girardi can win with the young guys.

Which has not been the order of the day since Jeter/Williams/Posada/Rivera were in their farm system. That's been one of my biggest reasons for not having much respect for that club. I am pleasantly surprised by them keeping the young pitchers given the lack of production from those overpaid old farts. Hughes, Chamberlain and Wang should have solid careers, but I don't know enough about Kennedy.

Kennedy at his best could be the next Mike Mussina. Not much power, but plenty of control on a number of offspeed pitches. He was a first round sandwich pick last year along with Joba, and moved up the ranks from A ball to the pros with Joba as well. It was pretty amazing when they would pitch in the same rotation in the minors - it was an 'anything you can do I can do better' relationship - Kennedy would go 6.0IP 1ER 5K and then Joba would come back in the next couple days with a 5.2 0ER 10K performance. IIRC, Kennedy actually had the better ERA of the two on the way up.
