I'm itching for baseball (2 Viewers)

.

I will be going to as many games at Yankmee Stadium because it's they're last year there and for really no other reason.

I'm planning on going to a game this summer when my wife and I visit the inlaws in Jersey for the sole reason that it is the last season at Yankee Stadium.

Steve, dude come on man I'm surprised at you. Greed is in every sport. I am sure you remember in the 1980's the NFL was notoriously stingy in its pay scales to players. the NFL labor unions had a problem getting free agency and also players being able to dictate their own salaries during this same time. that was a turbulent era, Steve. the 1980's is where I think a lot of sports grew up and got with the program because the future was going to be dim if they didn't. the sports that we know of today have grown by leaps and bounds in the past 20 years. the NBA, the NHL, hell even NASCAR has grown expediently since the days of you and me being kids.

That is why Steve MLB has by hook or crook got to grow up and face the realities it has put on it. it will survive mind you it is has too much interest to just go away. the Chicago Cubs are a main reason why I think baseball is still pure IMHO. They are the light of the league. with them the memories of what was once good in MLB can still go on.

If the Cubs make a deep playoff run and by chance make the WS, that will save this league.

mark my words, it will. but greed is all about sports these days, not just MLB, man.
just take a look around and I mean that in the most sincerest way, Steve.
One could even its even embedded in American culture

Help, I've lost my map of Louisiana. Am I near Boston?

What the heck are yall talking about? I was wondering who these guys are they were discussing, then it hit me... Louisiana has fallen off the baseball map! Red Sox? Cubs? YANKEES! Oh God please help them!

So we're gonna ship the Saints off on some idiotic trip to England thinking those people need to figure out New Orleans is here. But....

Its the ASTROS who need some "marketing." Are you kidding me? We're in the neighboring state, and a kid from Lafayette here mentions the Yankees as "we." sigh.

So lets do this: We'll play the 2nd home cardinals series in Kenner, Cubs in Baton Rouge, so you can root also for those LSU infielders, maybe the Dodgers in Lafayette, and a series w/ the Dallas Rangers in Shreveport, so all the Cowboys fans can feel at home.

The Astros oughta be to Louisiana what the Saints are to Mississippi.

Dont take me too seriously, ok? Its all fun. But seriously, I'm excited about baseball season too. Its gonna be fun, and you know, one game out of 162 is way less stressful than one game out of 16.

Yall come see the Astros when you can. I'll be glad to help you get around H-Town. New Orleans Gulf Coast sister, Houston.

Oh, and here's your future superstar: Ladies & Gentlemen, Hunter Pence.
Really, how can you not love someone this funny looking?

:D

he said "future" superstar. And yes, Hunter fits the definition of a future superstar. Dude is a stud.

The reason I am saying that he is not and will not be a superstar is not because he isn't a great player. There are few superstars in baseball. And I don't see him becoming one. He will be a star but not a superstar.

Do you mean as in hype or actual performance. As in jet-setting around w/ an entourage & dating porno stars, or hits/rbi's/stolen bases/power/ESPN highlights? If you're talking ON the field, you wanna put some money on it? I will.

Thanks. Even Biggio didnt shine like Hunter his rookie season. Besides, he got us all free CHIK-FIL-A sandwiches last year for homering off the "Fowl Pole" (---bruhahaha. they're killing me) The fans here really love him already for his hustle and energy.

I'm trying not to think about the Miguel Tejada trade--- if he's really on steriods, I dont want him--- give us back Luke Scott. And I hate to lose Adam Everett, the best SS you never heard of. We still need pitching, but Backe is back!

Anyway, YAGO, I didnt mean to diss your Yankees. I'm glad you started this thread. No matter who you're rooting for, baseball is a great thing--- I can get completely pumped up just listening on radio. That's what I love about it. You bring it along for whatever youre doing in the summer.

Why just the Astros? Why not the Braves? They are pretty close location wise, and are one of only two teams that play almost every game on tv in these parts with the Cubs being the other. The Astros might has well have been in Canada compared to how often I could watch my Braves. Ive been a Braves fan since I was a kid. They stunk, but Dale Murphy was my favorite player and like I said, I got to see all their games on tv. My brother has been a life long Cubs fan because he wanted to pull for a different team than his big brother and, again, all their games were on tv.

I do however see your point about the Yankees though. How anybody outside the New York area feels anything but disgust for them is beyond me. Their fans in this area seem to be the same people who pick football teams based on who wins the Super Bowl and claim to be life long Lakers fans. Not saying they are all like that though because Im sure there are some real long time Yankees fans down here that have their reasons for pulling for them. My old lady is from New Jersey and loves the Yankees. God I hate the Yankees.

There is a difference between being a star and being a superstar.

I understand that. Set up some measurables & its on. I smell a chance for me to make some money here.

Actually, as I understand many people in New Orleans have adopted the Cubs. I can see it. Why not get your heart broken year round?

Houston is much closer for a lot of La., and Tx & La. have so many ties w/ oil biz, port cities, intercoastal waterway, etc. Everybody here is kin to somebody over there, and you know now since the Storm.... We drink the same beers, we both eat rice & crawfish....could you get RedSox fans to eat Crawfish? I think they would openly blaspheme our mudbugs and start ranting on about Lobsters this Lobsters that....

BY THE WAY, I will likely get our massive Hou-Dat Saints fan club here in H-town together for some Astros games. Perhaps a nice "Geaux Astros" sign, punctuated w/ a nice shiny gold fleur might look good on the railing at the park.

no no no,.. haha... Im not trying to stir up or diss on anybody's team.... Like the OP says, Im itching for baseball....

and you know, after we get all into baseball, and who's hitting, and whos winning, and who sux, and what we're gonna eat at the ballpark..... a few months into---- its ... time... for... training... camp.....

i love baseball.

You are my kind of people. People harp on me for liking the Braves and recently the Mets (since I live in Queens) and I understand. If it weren't me, I'd be questioning it too.:ezbill:

There are many diehard haters of the Yankees in NYC. They're called Mets fans.

:hihi:
