Inflation here? gas/grocery prices just continue to climb (40 Viewers)

Ok but are you guys sure charging more for things will make them more expensive???!!

Not only are we sure that it will make those things more expensive, it will also make substitutes that aren't tariffed more expensive . . . that pesky thing called supply and demand.

Wait wait wait. Are you trying to tell me if cheap imported goods go up, domestic goods may raise their prices too in response to the new market???!

apparell is another one that is about to get bad.. i think sweatshops are terrible. but at the same time, the ones who are for those sweatshops are going to be the first ones to lose their mind when those American made versions are 2-3x more expensive..
If NIKE had to pay American workers to make those shoes, they will double. i'm all for it, but again, the ones who are hollering AMERICA FIRST are gonna be the first to complain... NIKE isn't gonna cut their profits in half just because its the right thing to do..

Yup!

(said in Schoolhouse Rock voice)

Teacher: It's basic economics . . . because when demand increases, prices increase . . . so when the price of product A made in Mexico goes up 25% because of a tariff, the customers start buying the substitute product B made in USA, and that increased demand for product B raises the price!

Kid: So you mean, even though the tariff targets the products of one or several countries, they cause a domino effect that raises all of the prices?

Teacher: That's what's called a market economy!

and once you enter that cycle, you quickly learn its self-feeding.

Until you reach a breaking point where tariffs are removed and lower pricing from imports start to settle, or demand simply halts. The latter, putting additional pressure on the economy thru lower demand, job loss ( at those mfgs ) etc etc.

The voice I'm hearing in my head is actually from the Simpsons spoof of I'm Just a Bill . . . which I just learned is Jack Sheldon, the same guy that did the Schoolhouse Rock video 20 years before. I think his voice is better in the Simpsons one. I love that they went and got the same guy - they're so quality.

You know its an old, campy video when you hear "the Bill" threaten to expose Ted Kennedy as gay if he objects or fights back against any flag-burning amendment.

Well, he should cut interest rates, right? ‘Cause I heard that lowers inflation just like tariffs!
Powell isn't really one of Trump's "people" or someone he'd want at that position, but Chairman of the Federal Reserve is an extremely powerful position and if Trump were to try to attempt to get rid of him or apply political pressure to make him resign/retire, he'd also be attacking some very powerful and well-vested financial interests and these people are some Trump knows all too well and fears probably. So, Trump will instead play the waiting game and not many significant moves against Federal Reserve or Powell until his current term runs out in June 2026. I realize that isn't one of Trump's strengths as he's increasingly impulsive, and lacks a basic, functioning filter most days, but this he won't fork with because bluntly, they could ruin him if they wanted to or if he started infringing on their territory.

Many of these powerful NYC Wall St. investors, bond and hedge fund owners also probably know potentially damaging information about him that perhaps most Americans or most people in general don't know about and if these sorts of potential charges would stick hard, fast and quickly.
